So if I run 285s that are no wider than 10.5" (same width as the stock 265s) and assuming they can be found, I am still grinding flares, inner fender liners, and mud flaps even if I lift the front end? WTH was Toyota thinking? There is no clearance anywhere.

    Dang!

285 is the width. The second number is the sidewall height and the final is the rim diameter.

If you want a taller tire that is closer to the stock width look into 255/85/16. Many are running that size without a cab mount chop. Plan on trimming some plastic and pulling the mud flaps up front.

Honestly, with a decent set of skids a 265/75/16 (about 32" tire) is plenty to get me wherever I've wanted to go so far. For every inch you go taller on your tire you only gain 1/2" of ground clearance. If you really need the clearance and bother with a cab mount chop you might as well just keep cutting and go with 35s.

"october 2014 production date and newer 6 lug tacomas regardless of packages on the truck ALL got 3+1 leaf packs, where as before october 2014 production date unless you had a tow package, or had a TRD sport you got a 2+1 leaf pack (this included TRD OR with tow package). Ride height with the 3+1 in the rear was about 1in higher from the factory."

I guess I will be sticking with the stock size tires. For me; it's not worth the investment, extensive mod’s and risk of larger diameter tires in those wheel wells. Must be why, if I do see a built 2nd gen, it’s way over the top. Not my style. I like subtle changes from stock or stock. It goes anywhere I want it to go on trails and also cruises nicely on the Interstate getting there.

Thanks to all for the input. Much appreciated.

I run 285/70/17 and did not have to do CMC, no rubbing, did some minor trimming and that is about it. I am running stock TRD sport rims. I am trying to see what i would have to do for 33x12.50x17 I know i will have to do CMC at that point. BTW i am running 5100's all the way around.

The 2+1 and 3+1 leaf pack assignments were somewhat random depending on the region. OR and Sport models may or may not have come with 3+1 leaf pack. Pretty certain that the Baja models, which during production were hand picked then converted from OR into Baja (as they have the RDL), all come with 3+1 leaf packs. The 3+1 leaf pack assignment became standardized the year I believe TRD Pro took place of Baja.

This is why you'll see some stock Gen 2 OR and Sport models, from various years with inconsistent ride heights just about every day on the road.

Why 5100s in the rear? What did you trim? Inner fender liner only? Did you retain the stock wheel flares and mudflaps and not grabbing either?

I needed new shocks and got a great deal on the 5100's adjustable for the front, and 5100 nonadjustable in the rear. I trimmed the inner fender liner and a small amount of the inner portion of the fender flare that meets up with the black inner fender liner. I do still have the stock wheel flares I took the front mud flaps off. I hope this helps.

Hey op, I forgot to mention I have not had any issues what so ever with this setup, sits level and I also run 1.5 wheel spacers for a little more aggressive stance. The dealer just did the leaf pack recall a couple of weeks ago and she still sits level.

Looks great in your media page thumbnail side-view photo. I don't care for the rake my Tacoma has and it seems like it has settled some more in front over the last 2 years since I bought it. Just leveled a 2004 4Runner V8 Sport and now I am itching to level the Tacoma.

The front height is different on all the models. The TRD SPORT is standard height , The TRD OR is .75" taller in front ,The TRD PRO and BAJA are 1" taller then the TRD OR.All three have the same rear height. So a TRD PRO is 1.75" taller then the TRD SPORT.I run a 1" top plate spacer on my 15' PRO and a 1" block in the rear, have 285/75/16 stock TRD beadlock wheels , no rubbing, trimming and run mud flaps have no issues.

No rubbing at all? Have you cycled your suspension to confirm and do you drive it offroad?

Full droop isn't an issue. What about when the tires get stuffed?

New 265/75/16 meat today. I like the look. We'll see how it goes long term.
The BFG 265/70/16 Rugged Trails it came with were shot. The BFGs were good in all but snow. These General Grabber ATx have good reviews for snow.

I have parked next to other Tacomas (mine is a late 2015, TRD Off road) and find it hard to see any height difference even though mine has a 2" body lift and a slightly larger tires. It's hard to judge but mine definitely has a much "stronger" stance from a stock TRD.

Those are the same tires I was looking at for my truck. TireRack was saying they don't actually fit on a stock 2015 TRD, but I wasn't sure if they were basing that on the rims, clearance, or what. I just have a stock 2015 TRD OR and everyone on here says 265/75/16 should be fine, so maybe TireRack is wrong. Still, I'll check back with you in a couple weeks and see if you are having any issues. Looks great by the way!

Thanks! If I don't update the thread after a while post a reminder. I was concerned about a 10 ply being too harsh but so far I don't notice much difference between the new tires and my worn out Rugged Trails. The Generals are quiet with the windows rolled up. The closest I will get to an off-road test anytime soon will be a construction site but there is no rubbing of any kind lock to lock and being only ~1" diameter larger than the 265/70/16 I don't expect any issues, even with stock suspension. Everything I read about the ATx reported a much improved tire over the AT2 it supposedly replaced.

The tire size calculator also helped me to do general comparisons for diameter and width. The ATx are heavy but so far I don't notice any issues with weight.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

I saw quite a few posts that said the speedo is more accurate with the 265/75 than with the 265/70.
