So here's my thoughts so far on JustDSM'S tune. I went from Ovtune back to the TRD tune with the hptuner and the truck felt like it ran rougher and went seriously pig rich and that's without FPR mod. Loaded the JustDSM base tune and it now runs similar to OVTune with the most spot-on AFRs I've had to date under WOT. Fuel economy should be improved but hard to tell until I get more driving time in. I'm going to do the FPR mod after work and see how things go. DSM also sent me a tune with slightly advance timing but I'm trying to get a feel for everything as I make the changes.

The best part for me is the increased throttle response that makes the truck drive so much better. I can heel-toe shift (have a gas pedal spacer that lifted pedal to same level as brake pedal) and throttle blip soooo much better now that there isn't a squishy, unpredictable lag associated with the pedal. I may play around with the settings to make response a little more aggressive.

For $50 and the abilities of JustDSM (Neo!) who has been awesome to deal and will work with you to personalize your tune I don't see how you can go wrong! Pure awesomeness!

It's a whole new world now with hptuners and DSM...

For those interested in the purposes of racing their truck or running solely on a closed course. I am compiling the list of DTC and MIL codes to disable for off-road use only. I will not post them on this forum, but you can send me a PM and I will provide the list.

I have also been doing some research in regards to Permanent, Pending, and Current DTC stored within the ECU. I know that Dwayne probably knows all this stuff, but I am just trying to contribute as a member of the team here. The Permanent DTCs were mandated around 2010 by the EPA in order to help prevent those individuals skirting emission on-road inspections. As you rewrite and adjust your truck, once a DTC involving emissions has been triggered, even after the MIL is turned off it will maintain a permanent DTC code. These codes can only be removed by the ECU programming (meaning the truck must "see" the problem has been fixed or no longer exists). This process is manufacturer dependent and takes a set number of Drive or Operational Cycles before the computer will see the problem as remedied. I think three Universal Drive Cycles is a safe standard, but nonetheless it can only be remedied by the computer itself and battery disconnect will not resolve this. These permanent codes remain in KAM (Keep Alive Memory). More to follow as I validate this process. I am on my first drive cycle. A universal drive cycle is typically, 30 seconds of initial idle, at least 4 min of over 40km/hr driving and a final 30 seconds of idle before cycling the key and shutting the vehicle down. Be advised the total process time, but more than 10 min total.

That's awesome news. I am still working through the Throttle Enrichment Disable but also scaling the EQ Ratios.

Side note: what gauge did you use on your battery relocate getting hot back up front? 1/0 or 2/0? I am putting mine underneath the back seats.

I used 1-0 that came with a battery relocate kit I bought from summit racing. I had to source a lot of extra ring terminals for two fuses, a circuit breaker and remote battery posts under the hood.

Just got an email from Hinson Motorsports. The HPTuner coupon code (HPTunersDiscount) for a discount on MPVI2 credits is temporarily suspended.

@HPTuners will there be another discount code available?

Alright, cam gear related question. I asked this same thing, somewhat, yesterday, but after re-reading my post, it wasn't clear what I was asking.

For a mostly stock NA setup, as in URD intake and stock exhaust, if I assume adding the cam gears, what do you think is realistic to expect as far as HP gains. I.e, for just the cam gears with realistically no mods/NA. I'm just trying to justify the price/install effort vs. just leave the gears stock for now and run down the HPT path by itself.

15HP? The install is somewhat of a challenge, and takes time. Not the end of the world, but its one of the more challenging bolt-ons. Having said that it really depends on what your goals are. If you want good pick me up and improved drivability then just a good ol tune from @JustDSM would be great. If you want to push the edge a bit and get the most of your engine will all the available bolts-ons, then this would be a natural step in your evolution. Not saying one is better than the other, but you need to determine your own goals. There probably aren't a ton of other benefits that can be listed with the cam gears other than allowing the tune to be more aggressive and maximizing the performance of your bolt-ons.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. If anyone else has any input, feel free to add it in. I know the gears are cheap (relatively...) but the install is more involved, hence my questioning on if it's worth it.
