The trick is keep OEM tires, gears and drive the speed limit. 65mph MAX. Use engine braking downhill. This from a 6MT ACLB Sport.

Ok I want that any tips? Best I've gotten is 25.4mpg. I've only had my truck 5 months and I did notice the cold hurts mpg a fair bit. The 25.4 I got on a mixed 35mile commute 1/2 local 1/2 highway but even only highway I can't seem to break 26mpg

Got 3 pictures consisting of two short trips from the weekend and one of my trip into work this morning. My 2018 CR-V got the same mileage so I really don't have any complaints.

And then we see "20.1 AVG MPG" signatures like yours and we're even more dumbfounded.

Those short snapshots aren't truly indicative of what the Tacoma will get over the longterm.

Anyone can play the "baby the gas pedal, drive the right road" game to gem up high mpg's.

The reality for most drivers is 18-20mpg.

22.9 mpg average over my first 40,347 miles, how is that? There were quite a few 3rd Gen V6 tacos that could easily match the same MPG on here back when I was tracking it so closely.

Go look at websites which track owner-reported mpg's...I'm not saying that +22mpg combined is impossible to achieve, but your average is an outlier, not the norm.

I get shitty mpg with my Tacoma. Honestly I expect better, especially coming from a full sized F-150 that weighed 700lbs more and got 2 mpg better.

Also was a lot smoother and more comfortable to drive. Engine didn’t need to be at 5k just to try and pass some old lady out for a Sunday morning drive.

Once again this morning I am breaking records. 2.7 dcsb drive 65 mph max and even slower up hills, keep your foot as light as possible on the pedal and don’t make any sudden movements.

I’m in the same boat. I use ECT power all the time now it helps. I can get 20 mpg highway at 70mph and it doesn’t feel like it’s powered by a hampster on a wheel.

You drive 65 on the freeways (I15, SR56, I5, I805) I commute on and you become road kill!
Either you're doing 80mph or 20/0mpg, because traffic slowed down...again! :annoyed:

At least on my motorcycle, Lane Splitting is how I get through traffic without having to deal with coming to a complete stop, out in the middle of now where... Nice thing, I'm getting 38 to 40mpg!

Lane splitting and you’re saying he’s roadkill? POP was a doctor and saw too many like you. Insurance may pay some bills but won’t make you whole again.

When I was commuting to a jobsite in Eastvale from LA last summer I was getting 28/29mpg while doing ~70 the entire time. I miss waking up for work at 4am :'(

I never even think of gas mileage when buying. I buy a vehicle that I can use and is fun as shit. Good MPG seems to.kill fun factor in most vehicles.

Want better mileage? Change to a 3:55 rear end like the American trucks run. Then if that's not good enough get an 8 spd. trans. Still need more? Put cylinder deactivation. Tacoma could get 28 maybe more and last 5 yrs. at most before systems start going haywire......cough...cough. Dodge.

People already go over the limit on 65mph freeways. I can't imagine how fast some people are going on the 75-85mph freeways in other states.

I've owned several cars, and none of them saw much better mpg than the Taco. My most efficient car has been the Fusion I had before the Taco. I averaged 20.5mpg in that. However, I had a 93 tune in it (twin turbo 2.7L V6 AWD Sport trim), so my fuel bills were pretty much a wash. My 3.0L fusion before that was around 19mpg. My '90 Mustang gets about 3gpm (gallons per mile, Lol). I've had two 4.7L Grand Cherokees that got around 15-16mpg if I drove nice. I had a '69 F-100 with a 390 that might have gotten 6-8mpg. My '88 F-150 with a 300-6 was actually pretty good, but I drove slooooow in that thing. It probably saw around 16mpg most of the time. I have no idea what my '88 T-bird Turbocoupe got, but it wasn't good. It had a big ol' raunchy turbo, and was under boost quite frequently.

My 17mpg in the Taco isn't all that bad as far as I'm concerned.
