I have a 2017 TRD Offroad 2wheel Drive and i'm having trouble pulling boat up a incline!
The boat weighs 2490Lbs and trailer is about 400 LBS . The truck just went up about 20' and stopped in drive , Put it in s1 with the elocker and made it about 30' up then same thing just stopped . Then backed back down and hammered it in d and finillay was able to get up and out of my driveway ! Call the dealer and they said that the truck could not handle that much weight going up a steep incline :-( They said that they wouldn't use it to put boat in the water because it might now pull it out!!! WOW this thing is rated for 5500 LBS ??? I guess time to say good bye to the taco!!!

Well, for one thing if you're going to be pulling a boat and using the truck to get it in/out of the water, you probably want a 4WD and not a 2wd.

What do you mean by it 'just stopped'? Did it lose traction, did it stall out, did it simply rev and not move?

I agree a 4wd would have been better but we just moved to the lake and got the boat so i had the truck before the move!! and no it didn't lose traction it just stopped moving up the hill I had the gas to the mat and the truck just would not move!

the 2nd attempt had the e lock engaged and was in low gear "1" I was able to make it up just a bit father and it did the same thing ! the truck is rated for 5500 LBS Towing and this boat is no more than 3 K just seems ODD!!

    thanks for the reply

You don’t need 4WD to put a boat in and out of the water, unless that boat is WAY too big in the first place. I have never used 4WD with my 20 foot bay boat.

The engine stalled? Is this correct? As in died, shut down.

So the engine cut out and the truck died? Something's wrong then, I would take it in. It's one thing if it's too heavy for the truck and you're just revving it and not going anywhere, but for it to stall is not normal.

I assume you have an auto trans and not a manual trans correct?

I have had this happen going up a long step incline/hill on a trail. I wasn't towing anything, just trying to make it to the top.
I would think putting it in S mode and using the gear limiter as a stick shift would be the way to go...

I tow this 20 foot Center Console several times a week, plus trips to Florida. Not once have I needed 4WD. Your truck should pull your boat brother.
