I may know what he's talking about, it's not a spring but it's this strange angle 'S' piece of metal that keeps tension on the adjustable seatbelt. Without it, the seatbelt adjuster won't stay put. It was a nightmare to figure out, and even though I now know exactly how to fix it - it stills sucks to remove it when I have to.

So yesterday while underneath my truck I noticed the area circled in red was wet with what looked and smelled like gear oil...what gives? Not a big leak by any means but what's the issue, is there a seal there that is going bad?

Right where the bolts are is where it's wet

Just did a quick search and sounds like it might be a the rear pinion seal? Would over greasing the slip yoke make that go bad?

No. The slip yoke is an entirely different part.

I know what the slip yoke is, but if it's over greased and the movement is hindered could it damage the seal on the rear pinion? I know I've heard that it can damage the seal on the other end going into the t-case.

I'm just wondering if the slip yoke can't move in/out completely because there's too much grease packed in it, if that would put strain on either end of the driveshaft and ruin the seals, basically.

I think over greasing it pushes it away from the pinion and towards the tranny. How often do you grease it? I do every 15k or so.

About the same, but I've had the dreaded driveshaft "PING" going on for the last few months so I was putting more grease in it thinking it wasn't greased well enough, before I knew that I needed to take it apart and grease it by hand. Just curious if maybe by putting more grease in there I may have put too much and caused this to happen. In any case it looks like a rear pinion seal is in my near future

I dunno I've quickly scanned over a couple youtube vids and it doesn't look too bad, but yeah I'll probably just wait until it gets worse. It's just wet right now, not dripping or causing any kind of serious amount of gear oil to leak out.

I love those old steel wheels, except green would make my truck look like a x-mas ornament. Would look good in dark grey or black though

Someone just did there tcase seals and on the inside of the flange, where the nut is there is a seal. I'd assume this is similar. The oil needs to work its way up the spline and past the nut to make it out where you circled. I bet it's just from the grease. Unless it drips I wouldn't worry.

Like I was telling @btbowie, the bottom of the 92 is rather moist in more than a few spots, been that way for years upon years. Definetly the transfer case seal and the front main seal, wouldnt be surprised if it was the pinion too. Just wet, not dripping. Wont remedy anything until puddles are seen in the driveway

Your truck seems to have a lot of issues for how many miles are on it. Cats, pinion seal, Im sure Ive read about more. My truck is sitting at 73k right now, and its had nothing major besides the evap cannister. Guess thats the difference between a supercharged trail rig and my daily driver.

    Huh? Springs?

    That's truly bizarre.

yeah it's definitely the price that a wheeling rig demands, if I only daily'ed this thing on the street it wouldn't have any of the issues I've had to deal with, except for the supercharger related ones. And I blame the PO for that, for not setting it up properly and leaving me to figure it out lol.

I don't go out quite as often as I did the first year I had this truck, but in that first year I was doing trails literally every weekend, sometimes more than one. It certainly takes its toll.

That being said though, this truck has never once left me stranded or failed to get me to work or home. Repairs are just part of the game, but she's a reliable ol girl.
