what is the legality of adding raptor lights to the grill and a light bar to a bumper in the great state?
Has anyone been pulled over fir them or not passed the inspection? Curious to know before I make the jump and add em on my truck.

If you are concerned, don't turn them on while driving on public roads or getting your vehicle inspected.

I don't know of anyone who has been pulled over for having the actual lights unless the lights themselves were on, on a public roadway, and/or a danger to other drivers. You'll be fine.

As long as you are running Amber to the Front, And Red to the Rear. You should be fine in any state since you are showing the same color light the vehicle came stock with, Just don't mix colors or show different colors to the Front or Rear.

Raptor lights on the grill are fine. They are a dot requirement for vehicles over a certain length. The light bar behind the grille is ok, on the outside of the grille, roof light bar, ditch lights all need to have covers while on paved roads and some non paved public roads.

I forget the number of auxillary lights you can run on the road, but they have a limit in Texas. And I was told by Lewisville PD that each individual LED in a light bar can be counted as another AUX light. The amber marker lights (raptor lights) are fine. The light bars are considered off road use only.

TW is a great resource for lots of stuff, but legal stuff isn't one of them. Johnny law isn't going to care when he pulls you over that "Brokendiff69" on TW told you it was legit to run aux lights.

Understand what is legal and isn't legal by going to the source. Read the code. Read the ordinances.

    This.

Even if it is legal, all of my auxiliary lights have covers on them. The only time they come off is when I am off-road or to uncover my foglights in real bad weather. Even my foglights aren't DOT approved, but I'll take the ticket for safety.

I had one in Oklahoma trying to ticket me for OEM parts. Had another down here (while I was living in OK) trying to give me emissions tickets on a car registered in another state. They arent all brilliant. Lol.

I used to carry the motor vehicle ordinance book around when I lived in OK. Cops get really pissy if you refer to it during a stop.

There's a certain amount of tact involved. I've gotten a few fix it tickets, but most of my friends are cops, so they just sign off on them for me in exchange for a cold one.

"A person may not use a vehicle equipped with a red, white, or blue beacon, flashing, or alternating light. In addition to at least two headlights and two tail lights, vehicles in Texas are allowed to have additional lighting including not more than two foglights (see below)."

    547.302. DUTY TO DISPLAY LIGHTS

    (a) A vehicle shall display each lighted lamp and illuminating device required by this chapter to be on the vehicle:

    1) at nighttime; and

    2) when light is insufficient or atmospheric conditions are unfavorable so that a person or vehicle on the highway is not clearly discernible at a distance of 1,000 feet ahead.

    (b) A signaling device, including a stoplamp or a turn signal lamp, shall be lighted as prescribed by this chapter.

    (c) At least one lighted lamp shall be displayed on each side of the front of a motor vehicle.

    (d) Not more than four of the following may be lighted at one time on the front of a motor vehicle:

    1) a headlamp required by this chapter; or

    2) a lamp, including an auxiliary lamp or spotlamp, that projects a beam with an intensity brighter than 300 candlepower.

He may have been full of shit about each individual LED being a lamp.

Its all at officers discretion. My dad drove around DFW for 6 years without a front plate on his Corvette. I had a wreck rip the front plate off my Camaro and got pulled over 3 times in a week.
