Actual strut mount and/or the lower bushing is shot. The lower is probably missing

Can you see underneath and see if things are snug there? The way the top is loose like that, I would say remove the top nut and add couple washers and snug it down. Quick fix.

anyway to get a pick looking up into the top hat? that is odd. Looks like the cap seat that sits over the shaft was left off or failed, and or the washer that sits above it (below the top hat) was left off. Sucks on any account.

This most definitely is your noise.

Can you post a picture of the lower mounts?

Have you checked the springs themselves? Any cracks, bends or breaks?

Which notch is the lower spring mount in? Did it by chance slip?

It looks like the spring is not expanding enough.

They were supposed to be set 4&5, but I count two rings showing on both.

From the looks of it, you have no shock dampening on the front suspension. Only spring bounce.

Possibly, the springs are too short. Where did those springs come from?

You could try pulling out one of the coilovers, raise the lower spring perch to the 5th notch, and reassemble the coilover. Perhaps then you can correctly tighten the upper mount.

Either way, if it is the correct spring, it should fit together fine even at the lowest notch.

I can't get a finger in to feel, but should there be a metal retainer/washer between the rubber bushing and the stop on the shaft?

Yes your missing something under the top hat! I'm not sure if you can get just the lower bushing and washer. I'd order the bushing set and replace all. If your handy and have tools its not that hard to lower the shock out the bottom without removing the top hat (upper plate). Many threads on that. Go through page 5 on this thread. At that time you can move the clips also.

My 6112’s arrived yesterday. Wasn’t expecting to order them so soon because of the reported wait times from the last backorder. But I’ll take it. Still need UCA’s, 5160’s, ECGS bushing, and leaf packs but now I have a reason to order it all.

    Okay...
Called the shop that did the work initially, and it took some 'splaining.

Problem #1 - They installed 46-241627 for the '05-15 Tacoma's instead of 47-234413 for '16+. The old struts are 1/8" longer.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bilstein-6112-finally-released-for-third-gen-2016.478386/

Problem #2 - They are assembled w/o the lower retaining washer.

They called Bilstein and they are sending new rubber bushing/isolators and retaining washers which includes an 1/8" spacer.

I'm not sure now where the clips are set now, though it sure looks like they are the same. I guess we'll find that out when they take the struts apart.

Wow. At least you now know what the issues are.

From the pictures, it looks like the clips are at 3. At least they will be easy to move when the shop pulls the coilovers apart.

here is a shot from mine along with assembly instructions = pics show they screwed up - as you noted - yes they let off the lower washer and installed Gen 2 rather than Gen 3. Glad they stepped to the plate and are going to fix them. They probably owe you an alignment too.

    too many to list
Hey yall, it looks like im going to be adding regearing to 4.88s to the equation of my lift and what not, so trying to cut costs. Looks like Fox coilovers and shocks are on the cutting floor.

Can anyone confirm that this setup would work with the 285/75/17 (34s) setup?

-Bilstein 6112 Front set at 2 inches
    -Bilstein 5160 Rear
    -Allpro leaf pack
    -Camburg UCA

What setting are you guys using for 285/70 (33s)?

Of course I am going to be doing an aggressive CMC and heat mold the fender liners. Im also going to shoot for 4 degrees of caster on the alignment. Just wanted to be sure this setup would work.

    Thanks!
