How much would you pay for a skewp hood?

It's lacking shine and it's perfect, it doesn't pretend to be anything else.

 

Probably have TRD items on their non TRD trucks too.

 

I swapped a chrome plastic grill for a black plastic grill, functionality is the same, air still gets in to cool the radiator and engine. It doesn't say PRO anywhere on it, it says TOYOTA just like my first two trucks did so I prefer it over the sumbrero.

I run 4Runner Pro wheels on my Taco, functionality is the same yet I have a better selection of tires. Are you running OR wheels on your Sport?, your avatar seems to indicate that you do so my guess is you prefer 16 inch tires.

I don't care if you or anyone runs a scoop or not, I'm just saying for the expense incurred for what you get, there are other choices, some even better for less. That's what many are looking for in this forum, options to choose from.

 

Like I said, if the scooped hood was part of an appearance package as part of the offroad platform, I would have paid the $500-$600 for it. I just wasn't willing to give up the rear locker to get it. Adding a scooped hood to an Offroad is cheaper than adding a locker to a Sport. I'm just retroactively adding an appearance add-on that I wish came from the factory. I guess there were some options for a scoop hood with offroad package and I've seen them on the road, but I didn't see any when I was looking.

The standard hood is SUPER long and even with the black decal which I strongly considered, it's massive size and relatively flat shape makes the nose seem even longer. The extra height of the scoop hood and the scoop breaks up the massive snout in a very pleasing way to me.

This isn't a hypothetical as you have seen, I am doing it, so I'll keep posting updates.

 

I don't understand what visibility loss people experience with a scoop? I ain't missing out on anything with my scoop sticking up half an inch or so from my angle.

Granted I get the rare occasional glare, but bothers me none. Specially if I did vinyl wrap it in the future.

Scooped hoods > non scooped. Looks far better. Contain your jealousies, please.

 

sh*& $500? I did trade my scoop for smooth hood and $200 on top. Could have gotten more I guess, but I wanted better viz and I got it.

A little bit disingenuous there... The difference isn't much and you're not going to notice on the road but get the truck on a steep incline or deal with a passenger side obstacle off road and the difference is fairly significant. You don't realize how much of that left side visibility you lose until you've driven both. I say that as someone who bought a ACLB Sport, had buyer's remorse, and swapped for a DCSB Off-Road.

I'm not going to lie, the scoop makes the truck look meaty in a good way but I haven't looked back after dealing with weird spray in the rain and even worse, the freaking glare driving into the sun.

Also, the scoop is more obstructive in a third gen than it was in the second gen like you drive. The whole center around the scoop is raised whereas it was just a little scoop added previously.

 

Hardly. If you commute into the sun like I do, it is a constant problem for months out of the year.

 

The 3rd gen hood scoop is a lot bigger than your 2nd gen.

Not going to see much of anything on a steep incline, scoop or not.

Should always have a spotter when off roading since no matter what, you really can't see what's to your right, scoop or not.

Thanks, bud. I can see how it's bigger, I suppose. Definitely uglier than the 2nd gen scoop though..

I'd still roll with it, I'm always looking ahead of the road to not worry about what's directly in front of me that I most likely wouldn't have time to avoid if there wasn't an obstruction.

 

On the road it is no problem, like you said, look ahead at all times. I can see the argument for OffRoading, but if you look in the hood swappin thread it's mostly Off Road owners looking for a scoop.

The lift’s got nothing to do with visibility
