Hockey Trash Talk & BS thread

As a higher level official you’re taught to look for the head pop the moment you see arm movement to call what is now a 4 minute head contact in the Hockey Canada rule book but has been 2 minutes for Elbowing for decades in every league. I mean I made that call when I was 14 years old and that was a long time ago. The NHL just chose to ignore it for ratings but in the long run it’s going to cost the owners a good chunk of change.

 

Not to change topics but what was your take on the foegelle cross check on Oshie resulting in him breaking his collar bone?

 

Honestly I haven’t watched it yet, I’ve had a sick 2 year old for most of the long weekend puking her guts out. It’s gone through the house over the last week and I’ve missed watching most of those games.

 

Ouch that sucks. I have a two year old myself. Not fun!

 

I just had a look at it. By the rule book it’s a 5 minute major since it’s a crosscheck that causes an injury. That being said there is the old question, did the player intend to use the boards to injure the player or did the injury simply result of the player falling in an unpredictable manner into the boards. Being completely honest that fall and the way the crosscheck happens during a battle would make me lean towards a 2 minute penalty but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it called a 5 in the regular season. What was the call on the ice?

 

BTW it was a dirty ass hit either way.

Two minute minor

 

Ben Bishop is very underrated (probably because he is always hurt). But he was really good in this series. And Dallas' top line was great.

Caps game was crazy. Canes are relentless and keep coming. Williams' redirect was so good. Still not totally sold on that no-goal call though.

 

Gonna be an all wildcard conference finals

 

O'dog just told a story on TSN about how when he played for the Canes he went on the Cali road trip for the week and when he got back he realized he left his front house door open. His neighbor was like "ya it's been open man have you been home?"

The Chara sucker punch to JTs head when he was looking the other way may have just concussed him. Guarantee no call though

 

Yeah, again I’ve said this before but I don’t know why people think Chara is a saint. He nearly killed a kid intentionally and that’s not his first sucker punch in the playoffs like the HNIC crew was talking about. I think he’s just smart about when he uses his obvious size and reach advantage.
