Yeah most of the modern day refinements are better than all the older vehicles. My good friend in HS had a 1980’s Celica MT, drove it until it completely rusted out, he had to rivet thin sheet metal on the front and rear fenders or the rain and snow would throw up everywhere.

I had a '78 Celica liftback MT that was that orange color lol, got it used when it was 12yrs maybe 11? and somehow the frame got bent (don't remember anymore) got rid of it when I got a slightly used '95 pickup MT (preTacoma) and then kept the Corolla as a short trip 'to the store and back' until the power brakes became no power no more :( it was 25yrs old which my truck is closely becoming but has a long lengthy life still as long as I keep the midwest weathering at bay which is very challenging!

I have never owned a vehicle that has a digital odometer, so the new gadgets and equipment shock might be overwhelming and take some getting used too

Just the mph no old school dials. Really didn’t like those because if you bought a used vehicle you didn’t know if it had 90k miles or 190k

my truck has 6 digit dials and no 1/10th mile that is on the tripometer, the Tacomas changed to digital odometer in '98 i think (thank goodness I got mine when I did lol)

... does the display in the middle fold and retract under the dash?

No I wish it did, it’s massive but good thing doesn’t block the line of site out the front.

darnit, I thought it looked like it might retract from the brochure and the crease on the dash behind it, maybe it is adjustable for shorter people to see over?

I think I will let the salesguy test drive the AT while I sit in the passenger seat and check out all the stuff

That would be a great feature if it did, but it’s built upright into the dash.

checked the dealer lot on the other side of town for the Corolla hatchback with MT and they have 2!
... but not one in flame blue
I suppose I can ask if I can test drive one of those?
not sure how the wheeling and dealing these days go...

Just say you are interested and want to test drive it.

Some dealers get butthurt if you aren’t interested in buying the EXACT car you test drive, others don’t care. It’s best to just play along and give them as little info as necessary. It also helps negotiation to not be like “OMG THIS IS AWESOME I LOVE IT”, then they know they’ve got you. In general, the less interested you are the better.

Every dealer is different and there’s only been one occasion they wouldn’t let me test drive something and that was because I wouldn’t commit to buying it that day. That dealer sucked ass anyway.

this place is regarded as a very 'high-pressure' sales team
I got the ammo to play back with them lol

Anyone with a manual regear? If so, why?, and how has your experience been?

Took a drive on a gravel forest road. Good opportunity to exercise the 4x4 system. I get a thrill from running gears in 4lo. I was grinning while running 3’rd gear at 2000 rpm and going 10 mpg. The sense of shear power and responsiveness is remarkable. 4CDEE297-CAB5-4E21-B9EE-69399CF5BFF7.jpg 97429940-1B95-462F-87C1-B3DA5983288B.jpg

how would doing that in a 22yr old 3.4 v6 handle in 4 Lo
I have fresh front diff fluid, should probably try that out
I cannot say if I have ever tried it in 4 Lo
there is a lot of fresh deep river sand around here that has not been touched
but I would probably be breaking a law venturing onto it
plus the sand is probably really soft and loose and I would need to get winched out, it could be more than a foot of sand in areas
