Failed a deadlift PR attempt (440 lbs (+5 lbs over PR)) 2 weeks ago and came back and smashed it this morning with 460 lbs (+25 lbs). I couldn’t get the 465 past the knees both times I tried but pretty stoked with the new number. I’m starting to smell 500...

Normally I weigh more in the evening, yea. Who knows, could be my scale  Body fluctuates alot and that is why it can be difficult when you weigh yourself too. You may see the scale not move but you did in fact lose some weight it's just bad timing of that second you weighed yourself. I use the scale often, but I don't use it as an entire unit. I think of it as a puzzle piece.

Man the days I don't load up on food I can feel it, especially water too. My lifts often suck if I didn't get my food/water in before hand (I consume 4 meals prior to gym due to schedule). Make's a difference in all aspects.

I typically feel better in a deficit energy wise... but its not lasting. I’ll crash eventually. I’m trying to balance those without getting into. Yoyo diet situation.

Maybe because I get more GI issues when eating more and that just makes me feel shitty so I don’t do as well performance wise because of that.

Yeah, I feel the difference if I don't get enough carbs in in the meals before my workout. I also pref have to time my workout to right about 1.5 hrs after a decent meal. If I do that right, I have good energy throughout. If not, I may or may not run out of fuel and get CRAZY hungry right in the middle and then workout sucks.

I can attest to feeling better in deficit.. I believe it's due to the same GI issues. I am so damn bloated at the end of the day I look 6 months pregnant if I don't control my stomach

One thing that helped me recently (also to get in more carbs) is to add Karbolyn Fuel as my intra-workout. I drink this as I workout; 50g fast activating carbs and gives me the continued energy throughout the workout. I also do 1 scoop BCAA/EAA's with it. :militarypress:

Hmm, someday I'll try that. I hate running out of fuel mid-workout. Thankfully it doesn't happen all the time.

When I feel light and agile I am on fire in the gym. Not so much if I feel bloaty.

I’m hyperthyroid too (most of the time) and not sure how much that just makes me batshit crazy regardless of when/what I eat.

As long as I have eaten healthy and not too much, it doesnt effect performance. I can work out fasted, starving to death, or two hours after a balanced meal. Doesn’t bother me.
Only exception being I don’t do well doing any endurance cardio over 1.5hours if I havent eaten. Lifting tho I don’t notice.

Interesting. Body chemistry differences I'm sure. I've always been thin and basically ate whatever I wanted, though I naturally tend to not overeat (when I counted) and I keep a relatively clean diet (single-ingredient or non-processed foods).

But I do crash if I go way too long without eating and try to do any significant physical activity in that time. I have theorized it could possibly be psychological too, since I'm acutely aware of not going too long without eating so as not to get even more bean-pole'ish. More so now since I'm working out and eating faithfully and watching my gainz.

I think it may have to do with individual insulin sensitivity as well.

I think I am more insulin resistent naturally because I perform best on low carb diets (right now I net under 100g per day). I also do not like eating carbs in the morning.
It might be why I am not as impacted by meal timing prior to exercise.
I also could not go into ketosis when I tried that diet for a month (netted average 23g per day for 28 days)

Some people really struggle on lower carb diets and really notice if their blood sugar drops during a workout due to not eating recently.

Funny how different people can be.

    Yep, so different.

I have some family history of diabetes, including a nephew who had it when he was a kid. I've never had it or been close, AFAIK. But I know I'm sensitive to too much sugar or light/white carbs. Too much being, for example, a big & very sweet breakfast on an empty stomach. It makes me a bit jittery. Nothing crazy but I notice it and don't like the feeling. So I generally make sure to have proteins and fats for stability, and most of my carbs are whole (rice, wheat, etc.). I do very well on that.

I’m the same way! I love pancakes every once in a while but they make me jittery.
Especially if covered in liquified sugar LOL

My Fiance's dad had diabetes and for "fun" we'd test blood sugars just because. I started checking every now and then in the morning and typically I am high blood sugar (like 105-115 nl/pg) and if you look at the charts, that's borderline diabetic (fasted you should be like 70-95). However, any other time I check I am spot on. Morning time is weird for me, maybe that's why sometimes I weigh more in AM. The body is crazy, and we will never truly understand everything about it (IMO) - especially the brain.

Fun Fact... The brain is the most important organ in the body...

    According to the brain...

Actually I think the most important organ in the body is what you think with.

This may or may not be the brain...

Pretty stoked...I cleared a 36” box jump on my first try. Said “fuck it” and just committed.

Not bad for a 230 lbs 40 year old fat boy...

Now I want the 42” box.

36” box jumps are all fun and games until a toe gets caught and you fall from that height. Done it once or twice.

I’ve been finishing up leg day with 3-4 sets of 10 on 36” box jumps and it never fails, I trip up atleast once on the last set or next to last set.

Finally found a primary care doctor in my area a few weeks back, I get my fasted bloodwork back today kind of excited and kind of nervous. I haven’t had bloodwork done in several years :fingerscrossed:
