TOTW (Top Of The World) w/ Stock Tacoma?

I really want to drive up the Top of the World (off road trail in Moab), but I'm not sure if my vehicle can handle it or if I'm knowledgeable enough with off roading.

My vehicle is a stock Toyota Tacoma with 4 wheel drive.

I was able to find some photos and videos from people who have indeed driven this trail in a Tacoma, but they didn't give any details about their experiences doing that.

Any thoughts? Is it a bad idea, or will I be alright?

Tips for an off roading newbie?

 

I think you could make it up with choosing the right lines, overall the trail difficulty is what you make it imo. Near the top is a loop, the left side is difficult. I would wait for a group going up and just tag along if your able, that way you can watch the lines they pick and have help if needed

 

what he said. you will need a spotter in a couple of spots. but it could be done alone with alot of getting out to look

Most obstacles have a bypass or an easy line. We did it yesterday but I’m a long way from stock. Overall it was a pretty medium trail. I was banging skids on the way down however but we did all the hard lines.

idk, I wouldn't do it in stock. The single-track up the hill is perfectly easy, but the loop at the top gets a little rough, especially coming back down. No sliders, lift, or tires? Naw.

As mentioned, it's one of the best views in Utah though.

 

These are from the loop, to give you an idea. Granted, I probably didn't pick the most safe lines either.

 

Crown Vics are built like tanks. One of the last body on frame cars built.

 

Gonna throw this out there but there's a lot of other less strenuous lines in Moab if you're just starting out off-roading. Work your way up to TOTW when you're ready for it, or chances are pretty high that you'll still make it but you're going to do some damage to the truck on the way there.

Edit to add: Ronnhy Dahl has some great beginner vids on YouTube, check him out. He pops out from behind things in almost every video and it's ridiculous but for some reason really funny at the same time.

Do you have a TC skid that was being hit?

 

I have full skids. The transmission and TC took the bulk of the beating.
