I had my oil changed at 30,000 miles and then today took it in for the 35,000 mile service. They don't really do much at 35,000 miles but mainly I wanted a couple of minor issues checked before I go out of warranty.

After picking up the truck I noticed a new oil change sticker on the windshield telling me I'm due for a change at 40,000. I don't know why they would put a sticker on the window out of the blue so thought maybe they did an oil change. They didn't charge me for one but this dealer did an unscheduled oil change once before and didn't charge me for it. Maybe their techs just are in the habit of draining oil on anything that comes in.

Anyway, this looks pretty clean to me. What say you?

If so, would you do one at 40,000 anyway or save some money and do it 45,000?

Good point, but it sure looks clean if it's 5,000 mile oil. I was thinking maybe split the difference and have one at 42,500 and one at 50,000 and capitalize a bit on the free oil change.

My guess is the tech realized the mistake and so it didn't get on the paperwork or wasn't there to begin with. I doubt anyone but the tech knows and no point calling him out. I like the free oil changes :)

In keeping with TWs standard logic and advice:

Demand a new engine then trade it in.

I appreciate all the helpful advice, but does anyone know what 5,000 mile oil looks like? I guess I will in 5,000 miles or I'll know what 10,000 mile oil looks like.

That's what my oil looks like on the stick at 5K miles. Drained, it's pretty dark.
    What color on a rag?

5k oil looks different with different variables. Was it consistently changed at 10k?driving habits? Etc. Personally I'd change it at 40 just so I didn't have to remember 35-45-55 etc.

Every 10K but I got one free one at 25K so 4 changes in 30,000 miles or 5 changes in 35,000.

Here's a pic of the oil on a white paper towel.

I will. Probably at 40K, but it's a minor mystery and curious.

If they didn't touch the oil why add the new window sticker.

My truck has 75 000 miles, at 5000 mile oil change intervals the oil still looks brand new.

Maybe the sticker is just a reminder that it's due to be changed next time.

On the paper towel, it doesnt look like they changed it. It would be alot lighter colored. Either way, it would be better to change it at 40k. More frequently is better then stretching it out in my opinion but its your truck.

To be fair, the same could be said either way, like maybe the tech fucked up and changed the oil, or maybe whoever put the sticker on fucked up and put the sticker on.
