Completely separately, was out in Utah this weekend climbing. We got to the parking lot in my taco early Sunday and were the first ones there (and only ones there for most of the day). By the time we left, there were four other taco’s there (and no other vehicles), to which my climbing partner lamented “it’s just a Tacoma world!” Must be doing something right, I guess.

You need a better monitor. Adequate welds at best.

It's a rocket stove. (Read: something to practice welding besides just sticking random pieces of metal together)

I took everything out of the back of my 2004 Taco DC and weighed it... threw it all in a spreadsheet...

HOLY CHIT... I've been EDC'ing over 800lb in the back, plus a Leer 100R topper...

No wonder she was a little saggy...

FYI- Toyota Rear leafs are known for their general shittiness, regardless of Tacoma Generation. :censored:

Well... she goes into the dealership today for a new frame. I'll be putting a new suspension on her. The question now becomes... what rear leaf springs?

800lb (or more) + topper... I think I may be beyond OME Dakar / D43XL territory.

All-Pro Expedition is good for 3" lift with 4-600 lb. That might work...

But am beginning to think I am well into Alcan custom leaf territory. The question then becomes... what would I spec to Alcan? 800lb & 3" lift? But would she then be too high unloaded? (E.g. driveline angles etc. Though I plan on doing a carrier bearing drop regardless. Will I need axle shims as well? I am told axle shims will add an additional 1/2" lift in the back...)

I think others have mentioned it but go Higher rated (weight wise), you can always pull a leaf if it's too stiff.

I think most will tell you Carrier drop is valueless.

It's not a 2nd gen, and therefore has a proper driveshaft with a double cardan. I don't have a carrier bearing drop or axle shims, and haven't had a problem.

I am interested to know if this will work (as well or better) with a longer bottom tube (the horizontal one, the “air supply source” tube).
Should it preform properly with an elongated air tube, then maybe it could actually be (& stay) inserted into the trailer hitch receiver and not have to be on the ground. That would simply be an added comfort by reducing bending over it, squatting in the mud, finding level ground, moving rocks, leaves, & grass, etc. Right?
These photos appear to show the stove made of the same size tube as the receiver hitch (2”). Which would be optimum since the larger tubes equal more fuel, more air, and more heat; but it also means that an adapter (stove to hitch) is required. Well, that wee connector might actually be beneficial if it were to create a Venturi effect - and thus cause better rocket-air blast to the flame! ????
