I'm curious if stronger leaf springs would change anything. From reading all these threads about this type of vibration, it seems pretty clear that although some axles are out of spec or brake drums warped, the issue persists. My guess is drivetrain/pinion angle/axle wrap.

Looking at the leaf springs, they're pretty much flat and I wanna say weak too. For example if I floor it on take off, I'll get mad wheel hop and axle wrap. I know it's a truck with a light end and all but the consensus seems that the stock leaf springs aren't the best. In any case, in the same way that the axle is wrapping on acceleration I'm beginning to think that it might just be doing that on deceleration as well.

I also tried playing around with the carrier bearing, dropping it in 1/16 in increments from 0-1/2 in and the vibrations neither improved, nor got considerably worse.

One of the TSBs does include a new leaf pack set

New Navigation DVD/CD/TV/AV/Bluetooth Stereo and seat mod spacers, 1" hubcentric spacers, seat heaters....
Axle wrap can be fixed the expensive way or the inexpensive way, your choice. Doesn't matter the year, all these trucks can have their rear end problems and drive shaft probs. Expensive is new aftermarket springs. inexpensive (free) is TSB spring replacement that maybe will fix it....inexpensive is about $40 and maybe and hour + of your time and WILL fix it. I will post pics of what I did to correct a huge axle wrap problem on my aging unit later today, rides like it is supposed to. The axle wrap problem has been discussed ad naseum here on TW with many associated pics, might be worth a read. Out of round drums and driveshaft problems with the two piece driveshaft are constant and annoying. All this happens to a small percentage of units, each gen having their own quirks. The basic suspension design is unchanged since the 90's, you would think by now they could solved all the issues, but it continues. Quality control....and just to make life seem miserable to all of you with driveline problems, I drove a used 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport, test drive, city and highway, smooth as butter. Got back and climbed under truck, checked center support bearing and suspension front and rear, all the rubber holding it from rotating had been sheared all the way around and the bearing was basically just sitting in the cage surrounded by sheared rubber, same for the rest of the rubber support, the outer was stuck to the metal housing, you could see light all the way around the rubber support. There was enough rubber left that the bearing didn't clank against the bearing housing. Now, this unit should have shuddered and vibrated like a MOFO, but it was smooth as butter. Go figure, phucking Toyota's...

Thanks for the replies y'all. Definitely have the ABS-flutter-like vibes. I've wanted a tacoma for 16 years, and finally got my dream truck.. and am likewise having less than warm and fuzzy feelings about it. I'm thankful not have any of the other more major issues, and I'm going to keep the documentation up and stay on the dealer's ass if anything else goes wrong. Not sure what else to do.

And OF COURSE I fell down a rabbit-hole of low ATF threads last night. Jeezus. Mine has no issues there, but man, it's just disheartening overall.

PS- Real talk though, every time I look at my truck I do get warm and fuzzy feelings. It's gorgeous and sitting around worrying won't do me any good. If I were you (MAF), I'd probably be consulting legal options or playing REAL hardball with the dealer. Social media/local news, etc is a big thing, and you might find that the dealer would be flexible on the trade-in/buyback rather than face a story/viral post regarding a multitude of issues on the "world's most reliable truck" and how the dealer and Toyota left you out to dry

Yeah the diff howl TSB. I had that done. I'm not sure what the exact difference is between the two but the new pack wouldn't appear to be a cure for axle wrap but for acoustics management of the howl.

That said, I got the TSB done pretty early and I didn't start noticing the axle wrap or vibrations until a few months later.

Y’all know you can warp rotors pretty easily right? I’ve seen motorcycles and cars warp rotors in one day when you’re heavy on the brakes.

The more I drive my '19 DCLB Sport 4WD the more convinced I am that the 20mph vibration has nothing to do with axles or brakes. Feels transmission related to me. It comes on and goes away too quickly for me to believe it's caused by those two systems.

And I'll also say this. The 20mph vibration is nothing compared to the freaking buzzing vibration in the steering wheel and pedals at 2000rpm. That drives me out of my mind and will likely be the reason the truck leaves my driveway within 2 years.

I agree. Mine has the vibration/rumble also. As soon as I slow down and it hits 20-25 mph. I can replicate this every time. Now, if I put the truck in neutral and slow down, nothing! Even with brakes applied. Makes me think it's not brake related.

Are you in an auto or manual transmission? My 6MT rumbles brakes, and no brakes, in gear and in neutral.

Interesting. Wonder why your N is different from mine. S/B same everywhere else but trans.

Regardless, good luck with Toyota. There is a TSB for the SR5. Did your dealer apply that?

Thank you. Actually this is the exact TSB I am taking my truck in for on Friday.

I also have vibrations while on the highway at certain speeds. I am hoping that is maybe just a balance issue.

Man having to take my brand new truck into the dealership already blows....

Mine is at the dealership now. Been there since yesterday. Last word I got from them was "we have no clue how to fix this, and are waiting for Toyota Corporate to tell us how to proceed."
