So, I had to build the flower boxes onto the front of my fence the other weekend. Because an elderly couple (who are from the neighborhood and were walking their 2 small dogs at the time) were reaching through the fence trying to call my dogs to them so they could pet them. Meanwhile my 3yo is going nuts (prompting my wife to come outside after she had just let them out 3min before) because their dogs are in "his" yard and my wife is yelling at the couple for not even asking permission to pet our dogs. They say "its ok, that he should know them" (he has only met them twice and that was when we had him on leash just getting home and they didnt have their dogs with them). Now I just got to plant some thorn bushes and azaleas other prickly things to hopefully keep anybody from doing it again.

Took my little sweetie to the vet. She has been vomiting (2-3 nights a week) and occasional diarrhea. Doc hopes it’s worms or something that an antibiotic can fix up. She got some doggie drugs, Mishka says, “yay wet food!!” I’m saying, this better fix this shit! She wasn’t happy with the vet...only likes a very VERY small amount of people on the planet, and the doctor is definitely not one of them!

Obligatory pic...she had a ruff day

What's your local law say? If they come into your yard and get bit by your dogs, shouldn't it be their fault?

Here you are responsible. When we lived in town we had to legally trespass three different people who refused to stay off of our property and stop antagonizing our dogs. Illinois and it’s residents are kooks.

Pennsylvania has provocation and trespass laws that probably would of protected us, but its just the fact that anybody would try and pet a dog inside a fence without me being present or my permission. The fence is not there to protect you from my dog, its there to protect my dog from you.

My two dogs are shiloh shepherds, which is still a young breed under development (started in the late 70's with GSD & Alaskan Malamut). The breeders are very selective on who gets a dog (with background checks, references, etc. You also do not pick which puppy you get, the breeder does), so the breed doesn't get a bad reputation as being aggressive or somebody starting a puppy mill.

We have also been trying to get him certified as a therapy dog (this would automatically disqualify him). He is very friendly and socialized around the elderly, kids, and other dogs when we are abroad, but he just doesnt like other dogs in his yard. I think it stems from an incident when he was a puppy. One day the neighbors boxer, who is a sweetheart, came up behind us, while we were walking outside of the fence at the back corner, and spooked him. He swung around and just let out the biggest woof he could, but then realized who it was and then play bowed at her.

When our schnauzers were puppies, our neighbor's grand kids would tease them by running along the fence dragging a stick. Now when the neighbors come out, the dogs bark at them...and the neighbors wonder why. We put up Beware of Dog and No Trespassing signs as per our local sheriff's office recommendation. This is what is required to protect us from lawsuits in some one comes in our yard and is bitten(they are trespassing). I know anyone can sue for anything, but it's better then nothing. Now these dogs are gentle, but don't try to touch one of my kids or wife or they will bolster like they are going to kill you. Some times a loud bark is just the thing to scare people off. Funny to have a loud bark from a little dog. Good thing they are not 100 lbs.

You would think trespassing was a crime up until an “attractive nuisance” comes into play.
At that point, you’re kind of screwed.

It’s worth becoming aware of what attractive nuisances are and how they can affect you.
