Cool. Thanks for that data point Squeaky.

What spec did you give Alcan for your springs? How much weight @ what amount of lift? How high does she sit in the back unloaded?

My Lear 100R, bought used on Craigslist for $200 has a few new scratches in it. :-( Oh well. It weighed 129lbs.

My total daily load has been about 900lbs. I could see 950-1000 with a couple more bundles of lath and my survey instruments, though the instruments ride in the cab on the cushy seats.

For survey work, I could see running the rangeland east of Denver with all that weight, and I could see that on rough trails along the front range where someone is wanting to build or along forest service roads. But I don't see wheeling with you all with that much weight in the back.

Suggestions for spring specs? 3" with 1000lb? 3" with 750lb? 3" with 500lb and just accept extra sag when running fully loaded?

If the truck is not level, then unless there is some sort of gimbal for the pothead where you can adjust for level, your pots / pans will tend to slide off.

    Agreed. Good point.
I suspect most of the time it will be fairly level, but if not, then just disconnect it from the hitch and set it on the ground. I was thinking of boulder strewn ground more than sloping surfaces when I wrote the first post. (Use your Maxx tracks to level the truck.)
Also, and I should have made this point clear earlier, most hitches are open at both ends of the receiver tube. It would be important that the one used in this case was. Mass air flow is everything in rocket stoves.

Thanks for the info. Sox are turning it around, still early. Just need our pitching to get back on track.

I'm not expecting a 20 min. commute but i'd rather not have an hour long commute either. Somewhere in between works for me.

What's "rich"? I make decent money but I spend most of it on my Tacoma and motorcycles lol. Also why do you say that?

Looks like the office is in Cherry Creek. I don't really care where I live as long as I can have a garage and some space to work on my truck and motorcycles. Just don't want an hour long commute and don't want to live in an apartment building. Obviously up on a hill with views sounds nice but probably not in line with my commute expectations.

Rich is relative. But it aint cheap here. I agree though that it would be easier to afford if I did not have this truck.

Rents seem to be about the same as Boston and I'd be getting a 30% pay bump so I think it'll be fine. My parents are in AZ and my brother is in CA so it'll be easier to see my family if I move out west. I hate flying so a 6-8 hour flight from Boston to AZ/CA is a significant deterrent to me visiting my family.

My springs are 4" of lift and +1,000lbs. I don't daily drive my truck, so I don't really care how it drives unloaded. I specd my leafs for my loaded weight for trips, as that is where I want them to perform.

If you want to go with Alcan, put an average amount of gear in the back, and go get it weighed, and each axle weighted separately. Give those numbers to Alcan and see what they recommend.

I think Parker or Southern Aurora will get you a shorter commute. But getting to mountains will take longer.

Currently using the back of the truck for sleeping, so I wouldn't want something that hot so close to the truck. Moving it before it cools off would seem to be on the dangerous side, even with some sort of handle. If you're not paying attention, a late night pee break could get very burny, another not fun option.

What Steve said...go with a stiffer leaf pack and if it's too stiff pull a leaf. I can't speak for All-pro expos, but the OME dakar will likely need an additional AAL to handle that weight as you've already calculated.

If you're at 800lbs now, think about the things you want to do (high clearance rear? roof rack? RTT?) and have the springs built to handle that weight. Also, I would discourage you from throwing a CB drop or axle shims unless you install the lift and have vibes. No reason to spend money on parts to solve problems you don't have.

Yea I pay 1950 right now for a 2 bed with a garage (I have one spot in a 2 car garage) and I'm about 30 min. from my office in downtown Boston. Prices to buy seem cheaper in CO than Boston, but the rents are just as high.

well, nuts. I'm on my way to Boulder to drop the truck off at the dealer, I unloaded everything from the back and weighed everything that came out. It came to 900 pounds. Otherwise the truck is stock. Will Alcan be able to figure it out if I say I have a stock 2004 Tacoma and I put nine hundred pounds in the back and I want 3in lift with a thousand pound load? Or do they really need weights on those axles?
