There is no other breather around the area of the transfer case breather. Now I am pretty sure that my truck has part #35123-35010 as the transmission breather. I don't know why it is different than others' or how it works. It's $9 at my local dealer so I'll order it to try and figure this out.

FWIW, the 5 speed manual transmission breather is behind the engine - between it and the firewall. It runs along the top of the transmission, over the bellhousing, and then up. IIRC, the transfer case vent hose tees into it and then one line runs up. It's obviously below the top of the hood, but it's very high; if you're in that much water, you're in real trouble. IIRC it just uses normal rubber hose with no plastic sheathing over most of the run.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems that trans/transfer breathers vary depending on year and model. TBH, I don't need to relocate any breather other than the rear diff. Since I was already doing it though, I took it upon myself to do the others as well.

Cant really figure this out... Do people have problems with the breathers after going through river crossings etc.? Never even thought about this until yesterday

It really depends on how deep the river is :burnrubber:

The rear breather mod addresses the issue of having a breather (actually only a 1 way pressure relief valve) on top of the rear diff. Immersing the rear diff in cold water will cause a change in pressure that could suck water in through the axle seals. So people started putting breathers on the diff and extended them up high and dry.

The remaining breathers are 2 way (air in and out). Most are high enough that you'd have bigger problems to worry about. The lowest of them are the transfer case and transmission breathers, sitting on top of the tranny, by the bell housing.

I was already relocating my rear diff breather from where I had it, to the engine bay. And since I'm obsessive and prone to compulsive behavior, I decided to try and run the rest into the remaining open ports on my breather.

Let me know if that clarified things a bit. I can find more informative threads if needed

Makes much more sense, lol. How difficult is it to run the breathers higher up??

Here is a write up. You can relocate it anywhere up high but make sure it doesn't sit in pooled water. Other places to run the tube are by the fuel filler, rear cubby or tucked between the bed and rear body panels.
