No...I’m operations for a small cyber company based in the beltway. Mostly FedCiv (DOE, DOT, USSS, etc.).

PM work in general is in high demand, everywhere. Wish I had more technical expertise though.
Nice! I would love to work for Boeing or some other government contractor. I wish I had more of a technical background. I know I can always get more certs for it, but I just always struggle with that type of stuff. I’m sure with a PMP you’d be getting quite the influx of job offers.

For the PMP, you have to have X number of years experience directly doing PM type work, correct?

4,500 hours spend leading projects. And 35 hours of project management education (a college PM course generally covers).

But “PM” experience can be broadly interpreted. I’m sure you’ve done your fair share of PM related work with all your experiences that you could mold in to your application to sit for the test. The amount of applications that get audited are super small. And in the event you get audited just inform people that they’ll be called/asked about it and Im sure they can help you out.

If it is something you think will be interesting, just start keeping tabs of anything you would count close to managing a project. Never know, a few years down the road you could be at that 4,500 hours and looking for a career change or step up!

I am keeping tabs on mine but not sure if I will ever take it.

I've been a team/shift/project lead for years. Even do some light PM work as is it, but I don't think I'd be anywhere near those hours since I mainly do hands on, technical work.

What he said below. You honestly probably have the PM experience you could list already, you just would need to think about it. Only thing you probably don’t have is the PM training contact hours. But I’m sure you could find a cheap class if it was something you really wanted to do. I can safely say that if you got your PMP with what certs you have already, you’d get a hefty amount of job offers that pay damn well.

CAPM might be a better fit and also limit the amount of continuing education crap I have to do every year. Already have to keep up w/ 3 different sets now (CompTIA, EC-Council, ISC2) and taking a test for Cisco every 3 years. Pain in the ass to keep these all going, plus ~$200 a year in fees too.

CAPM is honestly useless. With your experience, either do the PMP or do nothing. I only have it because it was required to be taken as part of being hired. If your current company wants you to take the CAPM and will pay for it and give you a raise then go for it. It’s just a memorization test. Otherwise, I wouldn’t waste your time.

With that route, I'll probably do nothing...lol. At least for now, that is. Not at that point where I want to go more into PM.

If you enjoy what you’re doing then I don’t blame ya. Being a PM sucks lol. Everything bad that happens - your fault. Everything good that happens - someone else gets the credit.

So much time spent falling on the sword! But oh well, the people working on the projects will recognize that you covered for them and will work harder for you.

My favorite is when I have a meeting scheduled, the attendees accept, one of them doesn’t show and it’s somehow my fault and responsibility that they chose to not attend and I get yelled at.

Ready for a nap. Had a nice big burrito for lunch and a beer. They got the assembly room at just the right temperature and nice comfy chairs. I could easily knock out for a power nap.
