Hey guys. My back window was working intermittently and then just stopped working altogether. I got on here and read a couple posts about cleaning up the switch and putting it back together but unfortunately that doesn’t look like it this is going to be an option.
When I pulled the switch the whole thing looked fried. Including the section of the wire harness(I don’t know if that’s the right term) that plugs into the switch.
Would love any help or suggestions as far as fixing this. The window is partially down and we’re coming up on the rainy season here in Florida.03402E11-ACAA-4F1C-81AA-DC2F4615FF6A.jpgEAF88B7A-998D-48F3-B169-C241F1689A39.jpg 8F8EA8F3-9131-4378-9033-ABB94FCCA8C4.jpg

I’m not to concerned with where to get the switch, I’m sure I can over pay at the dealer right around the corner.
My main concern is the wire group/harness that has burned through the housing on a couple of them and melted connection.

WOW! That's cooked. @DaveInDenver Come on down.

He's our resident connector expert. He'll be able to tell you the exact part numbers of the Toyota connector and pigtails. He'll also let you know an aftermarket source for the connector and terminals that is located in the US.

Get a replacement connector, the one I linked comes with new pins. Either cut off the burned wires and re-pin them, or make a pigtail and splice it in after cutting out the damage. You’ll need a crimper. Install a new switch assy.

Oh ok. I’m fairly electrical incompetent so that helps.

One minute it works, the next it doesn't. Not sure what the deal is but I updated the link, and copied it here too. I found this on a quick search. Looks like the right one, and I've gotten a different connector from the same vendor that fits perfect (AC control panel connector). Try to make sure that's the one you need, you'll be getting a set of 5 minimum and it will take some time to show up from The China.

You can probably get the connector housing from Toyota, but I'm not sure you can get the pins. That was the case with the one I got for myself by my understanding.

    See my edit above.

Also, if you can't get it fixed right away and need the window up, apply power and ground to the blue and blue/black wires. If the window goes down, reverse the polarity.

Toyota part number for the rear door switches connector (housing) is: 90980–10631

    Repair pigtails are: 82998-12170

I'll see if there's an aftermarket alternative. Just so you know, there may not be one since this isn't really a standard connector. It's made by an OEM for Toyota but it may not be in their regular catalog.

I guess I should have mentioned, when you apply power and ground, do it with the connector unplugged. If you do it with it plugged onto the switch, you could send power through the master switch and straight to ground. If that happens, things will smoke.

Forgive my ignorance but how do the pigtails work?

It's a length of wire with the terminal crimped on. You cut your burnt wire or wires and do a butt splice.

What you will get will look something like this. (This is a different connector though) The pigtails are sold individually. Buy however many you need. It's best to connect them to your existing wires with solder and heat shrink.

If you can sit in a holding pattern until tomorrow I can look into alternatives (like loose terminals) to the Toyota parts. Just can't do it right now.

Make sure to take your Visa platinum card with you. I hate to tell you, but those pigtails are about $6 each. But, for the ease of repair and speed of availability, that's the best way for you to go. If you buy the aftermarket terminals, you also need to pay shipping, buy the crimpers, and then futz around with crimping the terminals onto the wires that are probably going to be too short by the time you cut off the burnt part, so you will need to add more wire, yada, yada, yada. As I mentioned, the best way to attach the pigtails is with solder and heat shrink. A soldering gun, solder, and heat shrink will be valuable to you in the future for repairs and mods. If you need advice on what to buy, ask here.

Thanks @Muddinfun i have a soldering iron, solder, heat shrink, etc so that’s good. If I have to pay a little more to get it done soon I’m cool with that. I will certainly hit u up for more info. I can’t say thank you enough!
