Got my Yaesu ft 400 xdr today. Can't find the swr meter though. Does it not have one? @Huntjlc

No it doesn’t, built in swr meters is more of a CB thing. None of my hams have one. I use a $30 Amazon meter, just make sure you get one for the right bands (2m and 70cm)

Great video and discussion. I’m installing my Yaesu ftm 400xdr now. Need the mounting bracket which comes tomorrow then should have it all setup Saturday. Couldn’t pass up the $170 off!

Smoking hot deal on that radio right now. I too picked one up and got it installed. I'm waiting on a microphone extension cable which will allow me to finish up the install to my liking. Sale is good through the end of the month on the Yaesu FTM 400 xdr.

A little late now, but these extension cables are little more than different kinds of RJ phone cords. I made my extension out of $5 in cord and a pass through coupler. All from Amazon prime.

I'm glad you brought that up because I went that route and was unsuccessful. I purchased a 3-ft RJ11 cable from N2RGA Cable Sales which was guaranteed to work with 400 xdr. I then purchased a Tripp-Lite pass through coupler from Amazon Prime, connected and plugged in. No joy on operation as the microphone went dead. Back to stock configuration and all is well. Sooooo, I checked with HRO and they have a dedicated cable albeit a $13.00 investment. I don't know what went wrong with my first attempt, but I'm hoping this new cable works out as I really need that extra bit of cable length for my setup. I'll report back this weekend after I get it installed.

I know some couplers and even cables don’t have a 1:1 pass through. Meaning some are interconnected to one another or whatever can cause some issues. I just made sure what I bought mentioned shielding and other buzzwords lol.

Mine is a vehicle based one and is all inclusive in the antenna plus uses the radio amp to boost the signal. The one you linked is man portable (collapsing) so thats why it has a lot more driven elements. So that it can work off a much lower power radio like a prc152. If you could mount one off a roof mount, that would work better for the radios we have than mine.
