I've seen some other 1st gen long bed conversions. Maybe not with the axles/motor, but the long bed I've seen before. I made fun of their turning radius too (all in good fun tho).

I wouldn't say the 5' bed is useless, but yes it is definitely small compared to a typical domestic truck bed. The super cab 8' bed fords make even yours look like a matchbox toy, lol.

But then again, I think even the 2nd gen Tacomas are too big, lol. I prefer small footprint and small power, that way my truck nutz don't have to be so big. :D

IMO anything other than the standard cab pickup is too big. I like a 110ish wheel base early Toyota truck standard cab short bed. Anything longer than 115-117 is too much. I've been building Toyota trail trucks and rock crawlers for 20 years. I still remember when marlin came out with dual t cases and 4.7 t case gear for the "ultimate crawler" set up. I'm not building a crawler out of my Tacoma.

I still miss my 86 4Runner. When I got my Taco, even that was too big. Took me a while to grow into it, lol...

The turning radius of my single cab blows the 90s pickup single cab outta the water. Not even close. My buddywith a 93 had to do 3 point turns in spots I turned right up, back in the Colorado rockies.

Duelly with a camper body. Every time I see a Toyota camper going down the road it sets me off on a 30 minute daydream of what could be.

I've been driving a crew cab 6ft bed nissan for the last 12 years, and added the single cab 6 ft bed toyota to the fleet. They're a night and day difference. I can manage the wide turning of the nissan in the city, but the tight turns of the toyota makes it way easier and far more fun. U turns especially.

Its a mixed bag though, I really appreciate that backseat for storing stuff in the Nissan.

EDIT: Oh, and I keep seeing the stepside single cabs around here. I don't think they're that rare.

I have a 2000 4runner, v6, leather, sunroof, stick shift, e-locker, and supercharged (dealer installed when new), but no hood scoop. Pretty damn close.

Don’t do it. Most of the “duellys” are extra wheels bolted to the original axle. Not built out by Toyota. Way more problems than they’re worth, unfortunately

The guy that owns it hosts the tv show Dirt Every Day on YouTube and the Motortrend channel. There are a number of episodes that feature that truck including one where they drive it from SoCal to Montana hitting up every kind of offroad terrain there is. It's an awesome truck indeed.
