What happen with your CV boots? I have not had problems yet, what should I be aware of?
my '95 preTaco had manual locking hubs so I was happy to get new truck that I did not need to get out and lock them.
there is lots of snow and ice here in the winter and I had much difficulty at times getting out and trying to lock them and scrape snow and ice away with uncovered fingers

The CV boot issue (if you can call it that) is directly related to how much lift over stock you have so your mileage may very. With the ADD live hubs always being locked, your half shafts are always spinning even in 2 wheel drive. This combined with a more severe CV angle as a result of a lift can cause the fins on your boot to touch and wear out over time, throwing grease everywhere. This can eventually lead to CV failure if ignored for long enough.

Here is some detailed reading on the system if you're up for that kind of fun. http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/tech/the-automatic-disconnecting-differential-system-19259.html

Don't get me wrong. The convenience of not having to crawl around in the mud and snow every time you get stuck or need a little extra traction is awesome. My use case is likely a little different than yours and I tend to break a CV about once a year so having manual hubs would eliminate a weak link for me. But to be fair, CV's are cheap ~$100 for 2 of them and I've become a pro at changing them out on the trails so I just keep a spare with me.

If I recall right manual cvs are weaker than ADD so you might’ve broke more, could be wrong.

I paid 3k for it. The owner wanted 4k for it but there were some problems that wouldn't be too expensive to fix, but they weren't easy fixes either. I had to replace the oil pan, exhaust manifold, I had to flush out the old coolant cause it was leaking, and the truck didn't have a carpet and it still doesn't. Also, he was nice enough to give it to me for 3k cause I was willing to buy it right then and there for 3k and it's all I had, and I had to explain to him that I didn't have more than 3k cause I'm working part time since I go to school full time.

Bought a 2000 Tacoma with 300k sr5 v6 standard 4x4 for $4,500. Needs some work to the suspension and tires and a radio. Water/Air leaks/come through on the right side of the passenger. Will invest some money to have the way I want it.

blocks, pucks, spacers. By fall it will all be redone with moderate aftermarket parts. Likely 5100 and OME parts like my last truck had. Unfortunately, I’ve got nothing to brag about.

    I picked up a 98 Tacoma sr5 prerunner 4x4
212,xxx for $4,000 last week. Passenger side has some body damage but not too bad. Few leaks I have to get fixed.

You and me had a very similar purchase. Same mileage, same price, just 2 years newer, though mine needed quite a bit of front end work.

I sold the topper a few months back because I got an ATV but right now this is probably the best shot I've got. I actually got rear ended right before this photo. At red light stopped and the girl behind me floored it when the light turned green. Traffic hadn't even moved yet. My truck had no damage at all! Her Jeep was messed up though.
