I kept that ambiguous so everyone would think I was on their side against the ridiculousness of others.

And I would have gotten away with it, if not for you meddling kids.

edit: honestly, we all know that people who sell us stuff will occasionally try to avoid honoring their warranty, and we all know that we need to push back occasionally. Yeah, there's logic in the idea that a lifted truck changes things. And I think we also know that in order for these trucks to function in the real world, there's a got to be a large tolerance in the systems. So at some level, we also know that the excuses are bullshit and it's an easy fix. We know this because many dealerships don't deny the work in the same conditions. We also understand the legal and technical reasons why such a claim might be denied... But then there are also people in this thread who really believe that these trucks are magically engineered to some fantasy level where each piece was custom-engineered to serve a perfect function, such that the gas cap was custom-designed for the vibrations of the transmission or something. Which is also retarded, since we all should know these trucks are a collection semi-interchangeable of parts assembled for maximum profit.

edit: and I fully support anyone getting anything for free from Toyota, because Toyota's got plenty of lawyers working for its own interests. It doesn't need fanboy67 from Georgia to defend it. I love my truck, but Toyota Corp is just her pimp.

Currently at the dealership with my 2019 TRDOR with the only mod being that I switched to the pro grill. So far they have taken my car in and said it will be a couple hours. Fingers crossed!!

Edit: Well good to go they said nothing! They only asked if I had stock suspension that was it.

Many dealers will add a lift or tires to a truck, I would look for a dealer who sells new trucks that they had added stuff to and see if they would take care of this for you.

I don't think he gets it at all. You are asking Toyota to bless your untested modifications to a safety-related system.

You have no idea what that grille made of Chinesium is doing at 65 mph, it could be vibrating the sensor all over the place, in ways that are not taken into account in the signal processing. If that sensor is misaligned 3 degrees in yaw, the system will slam on the brakes on the approach to passing that row of parked cars by the side of the road. I guess that's fine until somebody rear ends you, gets hurt, and goes after Toyota in your insane court system.

It is a complicated millimetre wave phased array radar and camera system that could save your life, not the incandescent light bulb that illuminates the passenger footwell. You should give serious thought to not messing with it.

I don't have a chinisium grill, I have an OEM Toyota grill, so what's your point?

Toyota did mine a few weeks ago when the recall was just announced. I think this was before the mod limitations. I have a TRD OR with a Pro Grill, they said it wouldn't be an issue for the recall. Before the recall, my truck was throwing the no radar sensor at me, but no issues ever since they performed the recall.

It's actually not this complicated. If it was this complicated, they wouldn't be mounting it in some cheaply-made OEM plastic grille. Tolerances save lives, not tightly-tuned, inflexibly rigid systems. If someone taps my truck while I'm in the grocery store and I don't realize they've misaligned the sensors (by 3 degrees!), I'm not going to die of sensor failure. You're being absurd.

You acknowledge it's a delicate house of cards, but insist Toyota wouldn't construct a delicate house of cards. So pick one.

Die? Probably not. Toyotas are pretty safe even without TSS.

Are you going to bet your job the sensor will work perfectly fine after a fender bender?

Edit: on a side note, any previous collsion that wasnt fixed to OEM standard would be an automatic out in a liabilty case against toyota, and they also wouldnt perform this recall if you had front end damage.

    This is wholly Incorrect.
The very slightest deviation to the tolerances of ADAS components can cause extremely adverse effects to the functionality of the system.
    The liability is too great.
Toyota is CYA on this, and advising the dealers not to touch it. If they want go against Toyota’s recommendation and do it anyway, then they will have to stand on their own when someone comes back with a claim.

Exactly. My lift, wheels, and tires were installed by my dealer, and they recalibrated the sensor afterwards. Charged me for it too. Did I get taken to the cleaners?

    1. Short answer - I know enough about ADAS components, their calibration requirements, and the the results of improper alignment that I’m qualified to speak on it.
There’s a great slide from Audi that shows the impact of a minor miss alignment of the systems at different distances, and how dangerous it is.
I’ll try to dig it up and share it.
To that point, and not to sound condescending, but the challenge is really on anyone saying it’s not an issue to prove their point, not the other way around.
If there are any automotive engineers on here that have designed a system and want to dispel the validity of what I’ve said, I’m happy to engage them.

    2. Yes dealers are still lifting trucks and doing whatever they want calibrating them to whatever they think they should be at.
Toyota has taken their position on this, and it’s on the dealer to hold the bag for the liability for what they have done.

Why is it up to Toyota to prove that modification done by somebody else are within tolerance of their system?

Not sure, I'm wondering the same exact thing....i have a feeling that it will be a sticky mess but a little goo gone/wd40 should take it off....figure just buy a piece of the foam else where and reapply it myself after I update my grill
