Are you looking to get away from 16” rims? Your wildpeaks and those KO2s will be same overall height.

I’m interested in hopping to 17s as well, more tire options for tall skinnies. You can even get 255/80/17 in wildpeaks.

im at 265/70r17 toyo's now on the FN FX wheels...

ill be be switching to the 255/80r17's at some point this summer. im at 55K on them now. they still seem to have plenty of life on them though.
Ive gone though all the options i can fine and was open to trying something different but the toyos appear to be the lightest

I lost at least 2-3mpg on my 2nd gen when I went from a 265/70/17 C load copper AT3 to the 255 STMaxx. The power loss was noticeable but not terrible. Granted the 4.0 has way better low end power/torque than the turd gen. I definitely noticed stopping power being affected; which was expected (~43# tire to a 58# tire).

I had 265-75 R/16 Dynapro ATM on my 2011 in an SL load and noticed a very minor impact on mpg and none regarding power. Went from stock to 255/80/R17 on Sema 17" wheels on my 2017. The truck takes more go peddle to get going and more brake to stop but on the highway, in favorable conditions, I was still sometimes getting almost 20 mpg. With headwinds and hills, mpg on highway dropped maybe 2 mpg. Around town, mileage seems to drop more in the city. Still, I love the tire. I think it's one of the best options for the Tacoma to get a 33-inch tire without killing your mpg and power. I'm also on the OV tune which helps a lot so your experience may vary.

These trucks are all over the board. Really depends on so many factors. I just will say that I have managed over 20 mpg occasionally on the hwy on summer gas. It will drop fast if you are running in traffic and stop light to stop light. Also, your computer MPG will be off and actual mpg will be approx 7% better than shown.

Also your rims will make a big difference...

I went with the fn’s becuase they are a lot lighter than the actual 4Runner rims

Just averaged 19.9 (with 7% correction) from ATL to CLT with my Wildpeak 255/80/17s (68-70mph). 18mpg back this way...frustrated in traffic and had a couple of pit stops.

That’s within 1mpg stock tires and no lift.

Short city trips are where the mpg’s are considerably less than before.

So I’m planning on putting on the 255/80r17 toyos in a couple months...

What seems to be the cheapest/generic 255/85r16 option for a spare?

Can you get this tire size all terrains in anything less than e-load?

Considering getting away from my 285/75/16 Maxx’s so I can fit bigger brakes and get a slightly softer sidewall.

Has to stay a similar overall height tho. Anything smaller than 33” on a 17” rim looks crappy and sucks off-road IMHO

I just had a set of 255 80 17 S/T Maxx installed on my truck today. 2017 AC6MT TRD Sport 4X4 with stock wheels and suspension. Anyways, I know guys run this setup with no issues, but I'm rubbing the UCA at near full lock. Anyone know if an alignment, or castor adjustment will take care of that. If not, will a 5100/887 lift solve the issue or will I need a set of UCAs?

    Thanks all

I would start by just getting an alignment done and see if that solves the issue. Typically when changing tires sizes, an alignment needs to be done anyway.

Went from 265/75/R16's to 255/85's today (KO2 to ST Maxx). Also added new Fifteen52 Analog HD 16' wheels. Going for that Aussie farm truck look.

Removing the mud flaps is a given (or just go offroading they will likely break off lol). If you heat the plastic with a heat gun then remold them when they are soft they look better than cutting.

Take off the OEM "Mud Guards" and get a flexible flap like the RokBlokz.

I’m so happy with results. Thanks to all TW for the guidance 255/80/17 Toyo AT2 SEMA wheels, with toytec lift. Tinted front windows and added Pro grill

Still getting used to how different these pizza cutters look but i think im pretty happy with it. The 3.4 is definitely happy about the change!

Toytec - eibach/881s and SPC UCAs up front with a 1.5" block at 5100s out back.

Before with 33x12.5x15 general grabbers and 15x10 pro comp 252s...

After with @SCSPerformance "blemished" 17x8.5 SR8s in matte gun metal, wrapped in 255x75r17 BFG muds.

I have been looking at getting the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws in this size. Anyone know if the 255/80R17 will fit under the bed as a spare? If not what mods would need to be done?

Yes it will fit. I had to bang on two little brackets to widen them out a little bit. You'll see them if you lower your spare.
