I believe so. It’s kinda a GOT thing. The more people that believe... the more he can accomplish. Or, if you like, it’s like the stock market, “invest now, and your investment will grow...” Or, you could loose everything...

Mat, and company, are on a good track. I am happy with what I got(some are still struggling to get a better solution because of a fate of manufacturing builds) but 2300+ pages here show that the company is committed to delivering a better product. IMHO it seems like a good investment for today, with sound returns for the future. (Unless he keeps chasing that Tundra 5h1t... what’s up with that? lol)

Bottom line: I bet his talents will go where his heart or the money is.

:) we will be keeping the tacoma for a long time.
Tundra guys see what's going on in here. They been asking us daily to do some of this for the 3UR. Wont put any strains on the 3rd Gen stuff. The tundra ecu is a lot easier.

I noticed when i drive with my windows down and radio turned up, that the shifting, power, etc., feels better - being such an intelligent person i realized this is because i couldn't hear the engine. When my engine gets up to about 2000 rpm to shift is sounds like a friggin unbalanced tin can on a string about to explode. I thought about the 'cat-back' exhaust (i need my cats because i will eventually have to go thru smog test), but don't want to invest if all this does it make my tin can sound louder. Anyone experience their engine sounding like this and found a way to make it sound better? I also thought of adding all the interior insulation, but that is huge cost without knowing it will help.

Can confirm just now that ECT on 87 performance stands for "Erection Caused by Throttle."

I got Techstream installed and am able to connect using the software and I made a few changes to the vehicle customizations. When I launch the TSB file it runs the Techstream EXU upgrade wizard but fails when trying to connect and get the vehicles current calibration. Anyone experience this? It’s odd that I can connect fine and make modifications with Techstream but I can’t successfully connect and update when running the TSB file.

I have always been under the impression ( various information on octane/fuel over the years) that higher octane does not translate to better mpg necessarily, more power if the vehicle is setup to run on it however.
Ymmv i suppose. Interesting all the same. Im considering the tune.
Sidenote- my brother in VA rented a tacoma and hated it due to the gear searching etc. i had to calm him down.
Im hoping this OV tune helps with that in the Automatic version. Although, I dont feel that is as bad as he made it out to be.

Is “the shutter” that feeling you get when you take off from a stop and it feels like the torque converter hasn't quite locked and you get a shuttery feeling until you get up to speed?

Mine consistently reads 23-24+, but when calculated manually I get 19-20 at best (last fill up was 19.8). Your Fuelly widget indicates you're at 20 - if your truck is telling you 20.5 that's awesome... Wish mine was that honest.

Yikes. That is a long way off.

Yes. I am averaging what fuelly says, but the truck shows that I am 0.5mpg higher.

The strange inconsistencies of the Taco are just weird considering that it is a Toyota product.

Everyone's shared their experiences, I figured I'd share mine as well for future readers searching through this thread. Installation and flashing are fairly easy if you're slightly computer savvy and know how to use Google. Use Google and search what ever problem you're having and add "3rd Gen Tacoma Tacomaworld" to the end of your search. It helps pull up threads and comments by key words. The more specific you can be, such as copying the error message, the more accurate the search will be.

I originally flashed the 87 performance tune. Located in California, we only have access to 87, 89, and 91. Instantly, the truck felt much peppier from the stock tune. The tip-in was crazy sensitive and needed self adjustment. Although I drove around with this tune for a few thousand miles, I'd say you never get used to the tip in. Often I'd drive like a noob driving a manual transmission, lunging back and forth in 1st gear. 6th and 5th gear seemed to hold mph at highway speeds so long you get to the desired speed first. Whether or not the tune added any horse power, it definitely felt slightly stronger and faster. The cons, after driving around a few thousand miles, I realized that the truck seemed to step back into learning mode. Unless I was getting on to gas pedal, the truck would up shift pretty quickly. This would happen in light to light traffic and merging onto the highway. It seemed I had to relearn driving the truck and make adjustments to how I get on the gas pedal again to keep it in desired gear. Annoying as always and slightly disappointing as the tune made me feel like it did not patch the most annoying part of this automatic transmission. Other than that, the truck feels much faster and responsive when getting on it.

If you're wondering, I was averaging about 12.9 mpg. This is largely due to towing a 19ft aluminum bass boat 2-3 times a week. I know a lot of folks are on the fence and ask about MPG. Not really a big deal to me and is as expected.

I've decided to finally try the 91 tune this morning. Initial impressions, with just 10 miles on it, are that the tip-in is gone. Gas pedal sensitivity in 1st gear is more like stock. 5th and 6th gear are usable at highway speeds. And that is all I can comment on at the moment. I'll put a few miles on it before I start getting on the pedal again.

Bit the bullet this morning. Hoping the tune resolves the downshift lottery I experience when driving through the mountains.
