Dreaded oil pan leak on 4x4

I can call my toyoTech specialist I recently found locally next week if you want to get a quote for oil pan job.
his rate is a bit less than the dealer shop and I believe he has my trucks best interest in mind
its a bit far of a drive for you unless you are on your holiday to vacation in the Rockies!

was your truck new or when you got it?
If I had a big enough garage for a lift to be installed I would so that I could do the minor maintenance (fluid changes,etc) underneath like I did as a lubeTech with an open pit back when I was a teen

 

If you mean my tacoma, no, it wasn't new. In need of a bit of love but not abused or trashed, you know. But if you meant the worktrucks, not new but not that old either. Both had always been well maintained.

Ah yes, I'd love to have a lift me too.Maybe in the future when'ill move to the countryside. But for now, I know of a place where they have a bunch of lifts that you can rent for a few hours at a time to do some repairs on your car

I did post an ad here in the North East section to see if I might get lucky and find a Taco mechanic close to me

 

Tried 2 other mechanics I know, but one is too busy for anything right now and another told me it's Porsche season for him (he has no time). I have one other guy that I have to see next week. I did have a Tacoma tech that lived down my street and he did all my work, but he moved out of town last month

 

have you had any front suspension, etc. work done it on before?
If not it might be good idea to put some fresh parts on since they probably have it off anyways to get the pan
would save on the labor cost

 

Yes, new OEM lower ball joints/tie rods (both sides)

 

did that involve dropping suspension to get to those (i am not a mechanical whiz so i dunno!)

in removing front diff to get to the pan, do you also have to undo suspension parts?

 

I think it's mostly just the diff and axles from what I read and was told

I received all my OEM parts today, one problem was the oil pan itself....it's scratched all over the bottom (on the outside) and you can see where the paint is missing in scratch spots. Was told that they come this was from Toyota without any protective covering

I has them order me another one to see what shape that would be in

 

Go to store and buy a can of part cleaner and a can of “the right stuff” it’s literally called that. Clean the surface run a bead where it is leaking. Go about your life. It works

 

yea they come shipped open.. i got 3 and all of them were scratched up good... best to just get some good paint and paint it before you put it on.. its e-coat anyway, it'll rust in a few winters

do you have a pic of what this pan looks like, I'm just curious about the scratching

powder coat it white? make it match the exterior

 

looks like they stack those on a shelf in some warehouse like I stack dishes and pots in the cabinets!

I've good results painting oil pans using an Engine Enamel that requires baking for curing.

 

It depends what mechanic you go to there are some what would just shot a number and see it sticks, you should search a mechanic who know how to work with Toyota because they know few tricks. I asked the guy I learned to do everyhting to tacoma and the older pickups he said he would charge $200 to $250 for 4cly and only take hime few hours. Just find the right guy
