LMFAO. So true. Diesels suck ass for off-roading. They do ok with good tires, emergency strap chains (2-4 per wheel, rear only). I do light off-roading and tow duties only. Extracting an 8000 lb stuck truck is never fun.

I have completely smoked a Dodge and Chev. trans. doing this before. Not boats but a trailer so heavy on the tongue it wouldn't allow tire spin and not enough torque to move the weight. Just sat and bogged....in dirt at that. Until blammo. Neutral every gear. Both work trucks so attitude was "F it or get it".

    I know once they told me I busted a drum (Chevy 6.0 w/ 4L80)
edit: Other time the mech said I broke the sprag in converter.

This has been a very entertaining post.... I Tow my Boat with the bed of the Truck fully loaded with Camp Gear and Rear Seat area full No issues at all and Some of the Boat Ramps I have Used are uncomfortably steep however never had any issues out side of the one time I didn't pay attention and put the truck in 3rd Gear (6 Speed MT) and stalled just like that.

The Video of the guy trying to pull a boat out up the ramp and banging, hopping (way too pain-full to watch) shows that guy has no F#@&ing Clue how to drive.

Only time I have had to put my truck in 4 x 4 has been backing up an incline ..... my darn drive way with the Boat and a 8 foot wide gate that is really only 7 foot wide opening So In all as for what does this have to do with the OP post? only 2 things - 1st He has something wrong with the truck itself or ........:redxfall:

I pull a 4000 lb camper around with 4 people in the truck through the N Ga mountains and Smokeys. I’ve also hauled around a couple of ski boats (2017 2WD sport). I put it in S4 and ECT - no problems.

Your Taco should be able to handle that boat/ grade.

It used to be common in the '80s to have a 4WD that didn't have the power to turn the tires when in a bind. Remember, we were making do with 200 HP or less on a full size OJ Simpson Bronco.

Put on 35's and get in thick sand and just bog. Never hitting redline because it wouldn't breakover stall speed. If a wheel could somehow spin sometimes it would crawl out by gaining 100 or so rpm's over stall.

It's all about gear reduction. If i stand my 200# ass on a 3' breaker bar on my front axle nut, that's 600 pound feet of torque. Not going to cut it without proper gearing. (or more power).

Think about that diesel above in that loamy sand, if that were a small gas engine (or even that diesel with no turbo) all that weight and those tires are not going to move. No spin, no forward motion, just MWAAAAAAA 'til something breaks. i think what got him spinning was the fact that diesels have (I think) 1500 rpm stalls. Peak torque is low enough for that. It may have been more of a problem had he been all locked in front and back also, then ALL tires HAVE to spin to gain speed.

I’ve experienced that myself in my 05 silverado - front wheels in a dip, in 4x4, max steering lock, pushing an empty car trailer backwards- wheels weren’t spinning, maxed out the torque converter stall around 2k, wouldn’t budge. Had to straighten the wheels to get it to move

I think problem was improper air pressure in tires. Too much air and the tires will cut into the sand instead of floating over it.

No the solution was "Moah Powah" or shorter gears.

If only he had a skewp, he could make it up that incline with his boat attached to 3 others.
