Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator with 2018 Tacoma

I ran in to the same issue. When I was looking to buy the Hypertech for my 2018, their website only listed up to 2017. When I called, they said something with TSS changed from 2017 to 2018 and they needed to address that before they would certify it worked on the 2018 - which eventually they did. Hopefully it's a similar situation for the 2019 and they'll ok it soon.

 

Why do some pics show a green connector for # 730123, and some don't ? Just ordered one and mine does'nt include it.....

Ok,thanks mlr69. I installed my new #730123 and found one already in place. I've tested both by switching black boxes(same settings) and both work! The older unit had the green connector, newer one does not.Guess it was'nt programmed.... Just trying to dial in the correct dimensions now. My tires are 285/55/20's =32.3", but when I enter it still shows on GPS 62mph when speedo shows 64/65. I switched to 32.8.....too much ....32.5 closer....next I'll try 32.4 and see if thats the one . Am I missing anything?

 

Did you make sure it has the newest firmware?



I had no issues programming mine using the tire size method, spedo is very accurate now - went from 265-65-17 to 285-75-17.

 

I’m having to borrow a pc because I have a Mac......so my adjustments are kinda made weekly. I’ll double check the firmware and try tire size next time. Thanks.

 

From what I have read through other forums you should list the actual tire diameter and not the manufacturer's tire size. (use the 31.61" not 265/70-17).

 

Using tire size worked perfectly for me. My Hypertech is sending very accurate data to my speedo.

 

Sorry to bring up an old post but this made me think about a concern I had with my Tundra with the Hypertech calibrator. In fact, I'm so concerned I haven't ever installed it yet. With your digital read out reading the un-corrected speed and your analog gauge reading the corrected speed, that makes me wonder about the odometer reading. If the odometer reading is stored in the cluster AND the ECU then there is a potential for the odometer info to not match each other. I have tried to get someone with a Hypertech calibrator and also TechStream, to compare the cluster's odometer reading to what Techstream reports when connected. I have yet to get any Tundra owners to help me out with this. Maybe I'll have better luck with the Tacoma crowd!

What digital readout are you referring to that's showing an uncorrected speed?

In my Taco with a Hypertech installed, my analog speedometer, digital speedometer, and digital odometer are all accurate. I don't have an analog odometer.

Not sure what your concern is.

 

I meant the digital readout that shows the cruise control set speed. By analog I meant the regular needle sweep speedometer. My concern is the odometer reading in the dash vs what the ECU is recording. That is if the ecu even records this. Sorry for the confusion.

 

Oh, the cruise control set speed - yea, that number is not corrected by the Hypertech. Though, my opinion, that number is not important since I know what speed I set the cruise control for. Hypertech told me the data for the cc speed comes from a different place than the data for the speedo/odo and that's why the Hypertech doesn't adjust the cc speed number, because it can't see it.

Your dash odometer IS reading the the stored data from the ECU, or wherever it's stored.

Bottom line: if you change your tire size, the Hypertech will correct the digital & analog speedometers and odometer.

I appreciate the response. I have seen the wiring schematic for the cluster and looked at the wiring harness for the Hypertech. It is intercepting the CAN-H and CAN-L wires at the cluster, but this signal is un-corrected from the skid control ECU to the powertrain computer and others. The CAN h and l branch to them before Hypertech intercepts it. So I am still not convinced the ECU and Odometer will match on stored mileage until I see it via Techstream.
No offense. I appreciate your help, I just have my doubts on this.

They need to release the 2019 ASAP

 

Don't forget the CAN bus is a network, data flows in both directions. So there is "corrected" data leaving the instrument cluster as well. Hypertech told me the data leaving the cluster is what's feeding other modules - that's how the trans shift points and recorded mpg's are being updated. So it's likely the corrected odometer data is being sent/stored after it leaves the instrument cluster.

I hope you can find someone with a Techstream to alleviate your concerns.

Do you already have your new wheels/tires installed? If so, your data is already off, so what's the big deal in just installing the Hypertech?

 

Good point about the information flow in both directions. As far as my data being off...if I'm running a 5% larger than stock tire then yes I am traveling further than the truck is indicating, but as far as the truck is concerned all of it's data is in sync with itself. I am only running one size bigger than stock now, so I'm actually more accurate now than when I had stock tires (as verified with GPS etc) but when I switch to the big meats soon, the indicated speed will be off enough for me to want to correct. My only concerns is making sure that the values stored in the truck match each other if they are reported or stored in multiple components.
I just don't want to get speeding tickets or have my title branded if ever the ECU and ODO didn't match. That's why I want to make sure the Hypertech isn't just fixing it in one spot and not the other, but your comment on the network does put me at ease a bit. I would still prefer to see it verified though. You know, trust but verify! Yeah, I worry about a lot of things. I have premature gray hair! But this is the reason I have held off on the install of the calibrator or the tires until I know I'm not going to regret it later.

For those with 2019 & 2020 Taco's looking for a this speedo/odo calibrator, looks like Hypertech recently updated Part #730123 to now be compatible.

 

Sorry to bring up an old thread. Interested in buying a Hypertech but only have a Mac to run it with. Does anyone know if I can use a Windows virtual machine on a Mac to get my computer to work with this device? Thanks in advance.
