The ones I've had with metal clips/snap rings were from years ago so they may not do that any more. Shouldn't be hard to find a metal clip of the same style though.

If you have metal shavings you already have big problems.

I just stuck a high strength magnet near the valve. If I ever pull the pan I'll do a thorough cleaning then.

    Same as everybody else...
I've had a fumoto valve on my truck for almost 3 years, about 45k miles. I haven't had any issues with it at all and would, and do, recommend it to anyone who does their own OCs.

Swarf is just one of those words that if you never worked in machining or honing you wouldn't know what it is.

I ordered one, but I do offroad and don't have anything but the OEM skid currently. Should I hold off installing till I get some protection under there? Really don't want to put a hole in the oil pan out on a trail somewhere.

    Howdy,
I changed oil today and fell in love again with my Fumoto valve. It makes changes a wrench free clean hand chore. I have had it on my Taco for 4 years now. I live in the back woods of Texas and it is 2 miles to the first paved road. I off road daily along a riverbank and travel dirt and gravel roads whenever I go to a civilized place. I have never had any problems with the valve and highly reccomend them. Have a gooun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could pull the dimensions off the fumoto website, then slap a tape on the oil pan then you would know for sure if you would feel comfortable or not. The crossmember protects the short nipple one pretty good.

Yep, I had never heard of it until I got into woodworking and started sharpening my on chisels and plane irons on waterstones and diamond stones.

This answers alot of the questions as to whether the fumoto drains completely. First I've seen it. Tacoma come stock with a lip that prevents a full drain.

This answers that, a question I've been asking myself. Toyota's leave oil in the pan by design.

There isn't a material difference in the amount of oil that drains with a regular plug or the fumoto...I add 5.5q either way. This, along with the fumoto being well protected by my skid plate and the fact that the time it takes to drain is perfect for lubing the driveshafts and UCAs make the valve a no brainer for me on the Tacoma.

The valve is way too slow for my liking, staying with the dependable fast drain plug.

You are doing something wrong. Do you start with a warmed up vehicle and take the time to lube your ujoints with each oil change?

I open the valve, grab the grease gun, and by the time I'm done with the front and rear driveshafts I can close the valve and put in fresh oil. Oil changes take less time for me now with the valve because I don't have to clean tools or mop up the oil that always ended up on my skid plate.

Don't have a Fumoto on my Taco since the drain plug is so easy to get to as is. I drain my oil into one of those 15 quart pans that has a cap so you can transport it and dump it.

That being said, I love Fumoto/Stahlbus drain valves for most vehicles where you want to make oil changes a little easier. I've had a Stahlbus on my BMW 3 series and my Audi S4, and my roommate installed a Fumoto on his Forester. If you're in a situation where you can't use an oil pan and have to drain into a jug, or if you're concerned about stripping threads/leaking gaskets, then either of these products would be great for your Taco.

Also I've never had an issue getting my oil filter off by hand, I do lubricate the rim before installing a new one every time. But in the event that anyone can't get theirs off in a pinch, I support the screwdriver method. Just stab all the way through from the side and turn. It's messy, but it works.

I don't have or use any of those Fumoto style plugs, standard drain plug is the best.
My brother has a Fumoto ,and he went back to the regular plug.

You do you. I don't see a reason to change back to the regular plug at this point.
