It's the "American" version of the Ridgeline.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 3rd gen Tacomas short fall was because of the Tundra. Toyota has fleet wide mpg requirements. Certain requirements for all things classified as "truck."
So by getting good MPG on the Tacoma, they can force one more drop of blood out of that 3UR-FE..and engine that's nearly 15 years old..all the way into 2020.

Our developer will be on vacation from May 1rst to May 12th. During that time, we will be taking a few days to update several sections of our website. (FAQ page, new info, etc). There may be some site issues during this time.

Reg keys will not be sent during this time.

I chose the Tacoma because I felt, in stock version, my off road 4x4 was the most capable. Not because it's a Toyota.

But if the reliability remains and thats what buyers pay for, what is the problem? Its not perfect, but I doubt anything else is for all buyers. If the consensus is reliability and resale, thats what I wanted.

UM I don't know...Because they have far far more stopping power? "Adequate" is not worth $40K. Toyota Tacoma is merely "adequate" That's about it. Stop rationalizing Tacoma's faults.

    Why discs are better:
    1. High stopping power
    2.Quick Heat dissipation
3.Do not cause wheel damage- Drums have shoes connected to a spring that causes friction with the inside of the wheel. This can cause overheating inside the wheel and cause weakness leading to damage. Not the case with discs.
4.Easy maintenance- Disc brakes just need simple sanding done on the brake pads and the disc. The drums need the entire wheel to be removed during periodic maintenance.
5.Cheap spares- Changing the brake pads is quite cheap and if the disc needs changing, even then it is not that costly. But is the drums go bad, then there is a chance they cause loads of damage to the wheel on the inside which could become quite costly in the long run.
    6. Adaptability to technology- Drum brakes are purely mechanical, but disc brakes, though mechanical also support ABS fitting. Hence an added win-win.

I thought this was the OVtune thread, not the upset Tacoma ex-girlfriend thread?

I had the same mindset of drum brakes prior to working on both recently. Why would a new generation tacoma in 2016 have drum brakes?! If you sit back and think what Tacoma are built and advertise for its not a bad idea. Tacoma's are off road adventure utility trucks.

    1. Rear braking only accounts for 30% braking force. Worse case scenario would be extensive down hill driving require braking but engine braking should be considered at that point (Side note my brother tundra and my tacoma came down a mountain existing windrock park warped his front two disk while mine are still going strong at 50k).
    2. Heat dissipation from what? Track days? Hill decent? Should be more worried about regular brake fluid flushes to prevent boil off and break down.
    3. Drums last 2 to 3 times longer than disk brakes... not sure if your point is valid.
    4. Have you taken apart the rear drum brakes? I just tackled both rear drums do to torn E-Brake cables need replacing (to much droop) and it literally took me 5 mins to remove the cover and all the components and another 10 mins to put it back together. FYI first ever rear drum brake job!
    5. Again drums last 2-3 times longer so cost might be the same but only have to take the wheel off once vs 2 or 3 times.
    6. Drums require less pressure to achieve the same brake force. When you are climbing and running crawl control or MTS the rear brakes require the majority of the braking force so drums would be a huge plus. You do know the drums are activated the same as disks... through hydraulic fluid. You are thinking of the E brake purely mechanical which is a very nice option in location and is under utilized in off roading.

Why are you guys continuing to discuss brake technology in the already bloated OVTune thread? Come on.

On to a topic that actually pertains to this thread...

I just picked up my truck from the 10k/12mo service. While driving home, it drove as if I was on the original ECU tune. Prior to dropping the truck off this morning the truck was on 1.05 87Perf for over 1k miles.

Has anyone noticed an ECU returned to the OEM tune after a ToyotaCare service? I can’t say for certain that my ECU is no longer on 1.05 but I’m going to take the computer outside soon and check the software. Will update after doing so.
