I finally received the Pro Grille I purchased from MotorGenic 2 weeks ago. I got the sensor cover since my Tacoma has the ACC.

I am supposed to unclip the plastic cover that comes with the grille and clip in its place this special cover for the sensor.

I have tried for 30 minutes to clip the sensor cover onto the MotorGenic grille but it won't clip. I push as hard as I can without breaking anything but still won't budge.

Am I missing something? I cannot imagine it being this difficult. Has anyone run into this? How did you get the d*mn cover to clip into place?

I tried calling MotorGenic but I go straight into vm; their website makes you fill out a form. Meanwhile I have a truck without a grille sitting in the garage.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

For reference: the sensor cover is a Toyota part; the grille is aftermarket.

If I remember correctly I don't think the garnish "clips" in on it's own. There is two washer clips on the factory garnish holder. The two plastic pieces that go into the hole of the grille from the garnish need these to be held in. I ruined the washer clips getting them off so I just used some epoxy putty on the garnish pieces inside the grille.

I know some Chinese grills don't work with the OEM garnish. I'm not sure about your specific one, just throwing that out there.

This is the hole on the aftermarket grille where the cover attaches. Those horizontal slots is where the cover pins are supposed to click

This is the Toyota OE sensor cover. The pins are on the upper right and lower left of the picture

Are the two lower outside tabs too big for the two holes in the grille?

The size of the lower tab and upper pins is fine. They fit into the slots. But the upper pins will NOT click into place, no matter how hard I pressed the cover against the grille. It is as if the pins were a few millimeters too short or something.

You see those small clips that are in the round hole? Take those out first. Those are meant for the Chinese garnish.

Actually those round pins fit into the round holes without issue.

Are you referring to the round pegs that go in the circle holes? If so they won’t click. They need lock washers.

    Okay. I took those out.

The upper pins still don't click into place.

No. I am talking about the flat pins and the horizontal slots.

Gotcha. Can you bend the clips up without breaking them? I think you said they fit through but won’t clip unless I’m misinterpreting the description. It is probably fixable one way or the other.

I am going to try. But they are not very sturdy. I don't want to break them in case I have to return the whole damn thing.

Just take your time and don’t rush it. Maybe use some heat if you have a heat gun or hair dryer available.

I think here is the issue. The Toyota cover has this rib running between the two tabs --lower portion of the cover. That doesn't allow the cover to press all the way thru. The Chinese grille does not have room for that rib to slide through.

    58373401_10156646664902600_7332241371706_0e945380bfb73a2b97a298d42c945bd2e1255b2e.jpg

I am not going to modify anything. The whole thing is going back.

Thank you for your help, though. It was worth the try. Really appreciate it.

Indeed. I don't understand why MotorGenic sends me a Chinese grille and a Toyota sensor cover that don't match. Keep it one or the other.

There are tons of online complaints from Tacoma owners who bought the Chinese Pro Grille and the cover makes their sensors go wild.

My guess is MotorGenic is now including Toyota covers to avoid the sensors from malfunctioning...but they should make sure the cover fits!
