Also note that you may still be on 1.05 but they may have disconnected the battery to service the truck so your ECU would be relearning and maybe be driving all kinds of weird right now giving you the impression of being on a stock tune.

I have the "x-horse" cable. It's pretty much garbage. Definitely get the Tactrix cable. If you don't want to buy the tune yet you can buy the cable direct, and message Matt @OVTune for the dicounted price since you already have the cable. You're doing the right steps, but your hardware is failing you.

Heed this warning.... The Tacrix cable may seem expensive, but it is known good hardware and works. The Tactrix adapter isn't listed at the website suggested in the warning, but it is recommended by @OVTune, and of known good quality.

Thanks for the advice. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time and hope to pass it on to my son who’s 5 now so I’m going to get the tune with the good cable. I’ll hold off on any flash attempts until I get the OV kit. Just waiting until my next paycheck.

Not to stir the pot in any way but you'll hate buying a ranger when you see the next gen tacoma.

It's well worth the wait. You were .5-1 min away from completing the TSB. Once you have the tune/kit it's not really a significant delay.

I’ll pay you to replace my rear drums. :D

I boiled my fluid and my drums are out of round. The rear brake shoes turned blue. Since then have switched to DOT-4, higher boiling point and “feels” like it stops better

    Btw 91 base tune rocks!!!

So you're telling me that I shouldn't plan to keep my 3rd gen forever? That's it, no mods until 2nd year of 4th gen. and I can trade up.

You have drum brakes so you must not have ABS.

Have you ever locked up your breaks and felt the ABS kick in? If not, Toyota and the NHTSA *must* be lying to you.

The reason Toyota uses them is for off road reasons from what I've read. Helps seal against dust and other foreign objects. No clue if it's TRUE just what I've read

Flashed to 87 performance tonight. Very nice pedal response and overall feel compared to 87 base. My one concern is the rev limiter increase. I am assuming because this was intentionally raised into the red line zone it has been tested and safe. Can anyone weigh in?
