That's what MotorGenic claimed about their knockoff grille, too.

I will check them out, though. Thanks for the tip. It is worth checking it out given the price difference with the Toyota grille.

The garnish cover MotorGenic sent is OE from Toyota.

Or do you mean for the other knockoff grille you are recommending...

Alright. Time to re-pack all this shit and put my ugly Tacoma grille back on.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

I just looked at runnin4tacos: it’s $150 for the grille, and it says to get my own Toyota sensor cover.

By the time I’m done buying all the separate parts and the shipping I’ll be paying $250. I’m thinking might as well pay $400 and get the real deal. That way I know everything fits and works.

My OEM garnish didn’t fit on my eBay grille easily either. I used an x-acto knife to shave some plastic from the flat pins until they snapped in. Trial and error, take your time and it’ll fit.

    Is your sensor working fine?

I’ve seen complaints from Tacoma owners claiming that their sensors are acting up after they got the OE cover on the knockoff grille.

I have a knockoff grill and didn't use the new shiny garnish because I don't like the look of it. I put a piece of plexiglass that I wrapped with black vinyl between the grill and the sensor. Been 5k, no issues even had the recent service done to it at the dealership and they didn't say anything about it.

At first I bought the $23 aftermarket sensor cover and the dash light was on almost constantly. I returned it and bought an OEM one and haven’t had any probs other than being a bit stubborn to fit on the eBay grille. No ‘recalibrating’ or ‘resetting’ anything either........

LOL! I can already see my service advisor making all kinds of faces.

There’s a guy on YouTube who secured the sensor to the grille using zip ties! Sure enough his sensor kept acting up.

It's secured with all the factory bolts and screws. Nothing was McGyver'd lol.. I put that piece of plexi (and its really thin) so prevent the actual sensor being exposed and creating a reflection that the radar needs to work properly.. According to a buddy of mine that works with radars and lidars.

Nope, only time it acted up was when we had a snow storm and I didn't clear out the snow from the grill on my way to work. The light popped up and I needed to get gas anyways so I cleaned it off, no more light and hasn't came back since.

The taco garage, oem sensor pre installed, $220 free shipping. Lane departure and brake warning work great. I hate the garnish but trust that it functions.
I had to attach the “T” and “A”. They have an outline around them so I painted it black.
Kinda thinking about pulling letters off and painting red or body color.

Thanks Dave! Your tip did the trick!

Wish I had known this four hours ago! It took me 3 hours to screw around with that sensor cover and 1 hour to the rest.

    Anyway...Goddammm!!!

So if I am understanding this all correctly, I can install my TRD Pro grill and use the OEM garnish cover that came on my stock non pro grill?

No, the stock OEM non-Pro garnish is actually the emblem on your grill. You would still need a Pro garnish regardless and there's 2 different types - 16/17 non TSS and 18+ TSS
