So u wouldn't want him to be fired? I'm just probing your moral algorithm and seeing what your threshold is. Psychology is fascinating to me.

You need someone to do work for you. You’re going to pay that person to do the work that you are responsible for. If that work isn’t done when it’s supposed to be done and you’re legally liable if an accident or death occurs, why would you keep that guy around?

If you had to pick to hire an honest man for $100 or a dishonest one for $100 what are you going to choose. Character goes a long way.

You’re not comparing it in even the same realm.

Someone making a mistake at work is COMPLETELY different than pure negligence. Not doing the tire rotation and acting like you did is not a mistake. So please stop acting like this individual made a mistake a deserves his job. You can have 2 families to feed. That alone should be reason enough to do your job properly and to the best of your ability so you keep that job to feed said family. If someone is a lazy asshole and gives zero shits about his job, then why the hell should feeding his family be anyone else’s problem if he doesn’t care enough to keep his job.

Perhaps you feel the service manager should have been promoted instead? What's your opinion on that?

It's literally the same thing. Just different perceptions of what's important, which is why I'm probing!

Because otherwise you’re just a hypocrite. If you’re fighting for a dishonest man to keep his job, yet not respecting someone else who has not wronged you, your moral compass is a little off.

What? A mistake is the same as workplace negligence? Please, explain how.

You’re telling me that someone accidentally giving someone a different sized fries is the same as someone not doing work and telling the customer they did???

lol. Respect is earned not given. He earned my respect when he chimed in saying he wanted the man to keep his job.

Ok. So then we agree. The guy lost respect and lost his job by being dishonest and worthy of being fired.

    Tire rotation..

If we are taking about the dropped truck, then whole different ball game. That could have possibly been a pure accident.

But here’s the kicker. In some jobs, where you are trained to use certain equipment and expected to use that equipment safely and failed to follow that safety protocol, YOU WILL BE FIRED. So I’m that situation, mistake or not. Job is lost

No. I respect the guy who paid for the service and didn’t get it because he was man enough to speak up and say look not trying to have this man fired.

Fair enough! All I'm saying is, we don't know. It's easy to sit here and say x needed to happen or y should have been done, but we don't know. We're all human. We all fuck up, we all get scared and sometimes lie. Is it right? Maybe not, is it worth someone losing their job? Who knows. But this arm chair shit has no foundation in facts.

What's your criteria for negligence vs mistake? How is forgetting to do a tire change negligence? I'm genuinely curious and not trolling. I wanna learn perspectives

All I’m saying is this, if I’m a business owner, and I have a dishonest or lazy employee, he won’t be there long. Family or not. Because I have a family too, and there’s people out there that don’t lie and do the best they can that also have families, and WANT to keep that job

Forgetting would be a mistake, as the poster explained, the person didn’t forget, he simply just didn’t do it and told him he did, THATS not a mistake
