I'm going to get rid of the jetta for a more convenient daily since I don't commute anymore. I started looking for a cheap little 2wd truck. You know how it goes... "For just a few more thousand doll hairs I could have..."Now I'm considering something a little more comfy and that will drag my mowers around easily.

Anybody have experience with 1st gen tundras or maybe even a sequoia? What's the deal with the 4.7? Might have to jump over to the tundra forum and dig around.

I bought those for higher capacity/more media over the stock 4 banger filter. And price, duh.

A friend had one. 4.7 has timing belt so have to replace once in a while. Otherwise seem to be ok trucks.

He traded for a newer Tundra a few years ago. He sometimes misses the old one but said it felt sketchy towing his boat on the highway. Worn out springs and brakes and just general feel of an old truck. The newer, bigger, stronger Tundra tows a lot better and the 5.7 is more fun too.

Nice. You're talking to a guy who's list of towing vehicles has been a 93 22RE, 6 cyl F150, 4.0 Tacoma, 2.7 Tacoma. I'd dare to say the 4.7 would feel like a ferarri to me. Haha.

I guess a V8 runner would fit my bill too. Hmmm...

My dad has a 2012 (4.6). Pretty awesome truck, just don't waste your time with the 4.6 and get the 5.7 if you get a newer one, he wishes he did.
Buddy has a 2000 (4.7) and the thing has been rock solid at 300k miles, including some wheeling. Just change the timing belt like Daniel said. Also, CUP HOLDERS lol they have a shit ton

Frame has a lot of surface rust. Been that way since I bought it in 08. Everything is solid.

Timing belt/pump was done at 105k
Alternator/battery a yr or so ago
All calipers have been replaced. They are known to seize up.
Brakes/rotors all round in last 20k
Will need tires. 2 have slow leaks
Front wheel bearings in the last 20k
Exhaust has a leak. @beertimecontinuum is gonna give me the one of his donor
last time i did brakes I broke one of the hard lines and had to replace it. Abs/traction light has been on ever since. Drives fine. Air in the system maybe?
Volumn knob on stick radio does what it wants when you turn it up or down.

Been a great truck. It is what sold me on toyotas. I've always ran 0w30 mobile1 full syn in it with yota filter

    $6000
    Partial trades considered

I don’t mess around with rust. Too many squeaky clean ones down here. Appreciate the info.

I had a 2000 Tundra. Very nice ride. I dragged a trailer loaded with a 12,000lb tractor from Indianapolis to Louisville. It was a load, but she did it. 4.7 is a strong motor for It's size. Wouldn't hesitate to own another one

A crosstie on my retaining wall has rotted or something. Noticed a spot of gravel spilled out. For now, i'm just going to see if i can lag a pressure treated 2x6 over it to keep the rest of the gravel in.

Is there a better repair option that doesn't involve rebuilding the whole wall?
