    Might as well tell a Ruffed Grouse hunting story...

    So it's early season and it's a warm day.
    I sit down with my back to a huge Tulip Poplar tree and promptly fell asleep.

    I wake up when it seems like there are 2x4s falling all around me.
    And a family of Pileated Woodpeckers hollering their heads off, and hammering on the tree.
    They're the big ones, like Woody Woodpecker. The young'uns hadn't separated from the parents yet.

    It hadn't registered on my brain that the tree was mostly dead. :eek:
