Interested to see this in the bed. I have my tire bolted in the bed and was thinking of making something more permanent like this. My concern was something like this would waste even more space in the bed since you will never get the tire close to the bed rails.

But bed organization is something I am trying to work on so I think I might finally make a swing out for just the tire, and maybe high-lift. Keep playing devil's advocate with myself whether I can make it work or not.

Id make something that bolted in the bed rail. Doesnt have to be overkill since the tire will support its own weight.

Been running that for years. Even have my trasharoo on it. Problem is that it takes up storage space, something I am short on. I am hoping to be able to get a DRZ straight on in my bed when I remove the tool box, which will require me to find new storage space in unlikely locations. Removing the tailgate and having a swing out will give me the last few inches I need to get a DRZ in the bed with something keeping shit from falling out of my bed. It's a whole big crazy thing I have been working out in my head for a while that everyone considers me nuts for even attempting since I want to be able to wheel my truck with the bike in the bed if it came down to it. But I'll drop it for now cause I'm getting way off topic.

Haven't touched my welder in 2 weeks. Feels bad man.

For me, I’ll have this behind my fridge which is kinda a dead space anyways. I couldn’t have it along the rails on the side (wheel wells) so it’d have to be on the front, which doesn’t make sense in my bed as far as useable space goes. Plus I like to sleep in there so I want half of it completely open

Edit: and I plan on installing it next week. Just need to paint it and drill a couple holes in the bed.

Mock up of how it’s going to sit, roughly. This was before I built the holder but you get the idea.

    I finished it!

Annnndddd then I broke it, like A LOT!

The good news is that none of my welds broke! and that round bar is 1/2" solid steel.

once everything stop deforming, I did manage to pull this off...

its a bit deformed, but its a bend!

    Round #2

    Beefcake bender 2.0!

now with 125% more metal! ( alright I'll stop with the infomercial stuff :D )

Fully welded in 1/4" angle iron for stoutness

taking up the slack up top with another 1/4" plate

    she's Good'N Tight now!

    The end result?

    Sucess!
its not a 90 Degree bend, but I think I ran out of stroke on the bottle jack. Also the curve is a bit smooshed, but I think I have a fix for that.

PS: this MoFo is HEAVY... way over 50lbs. It has to be, my toddler is like 45, and he's a featherweight compared to this beast.

    Happy Friday!
    :mudding:

When in doubt, make it stout!

Do you guys rent or purchase tanks? Rental is about $1/day and purchase is about $360. Seems that rental would be best short term considering I'm going to need 2 tanks for a total of almost $800. Just curious what everyone else does.

You dont have to buy 2 tanks. You get it refilled/exchanged for full one at a much cheaper cost

I bought my 60CF tank. I’m gonna pick up a second one in the coming months. It’s a great size, and then I can just swap them when it runs out and fill it at my leisure, as opposed to having to get it filled as soon as it runs out.

Was just in the same boat. After much consideration, I ended up going with the MM 220. I figured if I was going to go TIG, I wanted HF starts and AC/DC capabilities.

Another stupid little thing that made me glad for the welder.
Swingout latch again. New one came in but the old one was installed with allen type button heads, two of which stripped and wouldn't come out with reverse drill or extractor.

I know I should just bite the bullet and purchase, but was also trying to avoid the $800 buy in cost right after the $3k welder purchase. Guess you gotta pay to play though.

Might be a regional thing, but it seems like most people I know around here buy. The big chain gas suppliers around here will all swap out whatever empty tank you bring in with a full one, takes me like 5 minutes to pick up a new tank. I think the initial cost was like $150-200 for my tank the first time, then it’s like $40 to get a full one every few months.
