Chucky running amok in Oakland.

The Oakland Raiders brass, apparently, doesn’t know whom to trust.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Raiders general manager Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden sent its scouting staff home, and the group isn’t expected to resume its work by the time the first round of the NFL draft starts Thursday night.

It’s common for a new front office regime to overhaul its scouting department to bring in personnel with which it is familiar. But because scouting and player evaluation for the NFL draft start well before the beginning of the college football season, typically, those changes happen after the draft has been completed.

The dialogue and exchange of ideas on incoming player evaluation between scouts and executives, however, is paramount to the drafting process, and many of these discussions take place up to and during the draft.

Are the Chiefs gonna have a single star player left at the start of the season?

Not sure he does much to elevate how the Defense and Special Teams players perform.

Well, obviously not referring to the defense. It looks real good now though.

12 different receivers with a TD pass on offense is what I meant.

We'll see. My only concern related to the Chiefs is that they're putting a lot on a young QB without a lot of time in the league. Colin Kaepernick seemed unstoppable for his first couple of seasons, and then teams/coaches figured out how to stonewall him and he (and the 49ers offense) fell apart.
Mahomes is a different player, but there are some similarities to their style of play. So it'll be interesting to see how this next season goes, to see if he can continue to challenge defenses the way he did this year, I think.

Patriots stonewalled him first half of AFCCG, he broke through. It will be a big challenge for defenses now that Mahomes has a year of experience.

    Gonna be exciting!

Kaep couldn't read his receiver's anywhere near as fast as Mahomes can, or make the freakish throws that Mahomes can with defenses in his face. Granted, one season doesn't make him a superstar, but I don't think this kid ends up another Kaepernick.

I don't really either, just mentioning it as a possibility.
One thing I'm comfortable predicting, though, is that he's not going to have the same sort of #'s this year, as more defenses figure out how to slow him down.

Say what...?!?! Kaepernick was always trash... he just had a good receiving Corps, offensive line and a defense that was impenetrable... when everybody left the D... that is when they started going south. Ryan Leaf could have took that team to the Super Bowl.

    o_O

2012 & 2013 his passer rating was in the 90's,averaging 7-8 yards per attempt, AND he also rushed for 5-6 yards per attempt. Not outstanding #'s on their own, but together it made him dangerous; if you busted his pocket he'd take off running, and he could run.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08Tv-yPvw4Y

The rest of his team was very good, yes, but Kaep was no slouch in his first couple of years in the league.
Mahomes is better at both passing (especially on the run) and rushing, but it still took teams a season or two to figure out that Kaep was flighty, so all you needed to do was pressure his pocket he'd scrap the play and bolt. Once they found his weakness, he was done. But before that, he was very hard to stop.

The "athletic run-style" QBs will never succeed in the NFL... I know I dealt with it for years with McNabb. Just like you said... all you have to do is press the pocket and they try to run for it. Mahomes will succeed because at his core he is a pocket passer first. His scramble is more like big Ben or Luck... which is to say run around the backfield until a receiver breaks free then fling it to them. I like the kid, and I know the Andy Reid style will fit him perfectly. As long as they dont get in the way of my Eagles I will root for their success.
