So this tows well for you? This is the same size as one we are buying, in fact, we looked at the same camper you have. We've been a little anxious about pulling a camper this size with the Tacoma. I'm really glad to hear it's working for you. Did you make any adjustments to the truck?

    Hello,
New member here. I thought I would show what my Taco pulls. I just traded in my FJ for this Taco. I liked my FJ and it pulled this trailer fine but we added a dog to our family of 3 and the wife didn’t like being crammed in an FJ with a stinky dog (Dog farts no bueno). Note the kennel in the bed of the truck, dog rides in the bed now and everyone is happy. Getting a camper top in near future for the dog. Just got back from our first road trip with the Taco to northern AZ and had no problems except for one of the stock tires developing a slow leak. Went ahead and got new heavier duty tires in Flagstaff, which I wanted to upgrade anyway. 8A85FAFD-6F27-40A1-A9EE-6EF8CAE4539C.jpgDD28E13A-EB7E-4ABC-830D-6911875A0EB1.jpg

I doubt that load would be an issue as long as you're smart about how you load it. That trailer's dry weight is 4,200 lbs.

I've been pulling a snowmobile trailer of nearly the same size and it's coming in a little lighter, 3,400 lbs. The weight isn't a problem, you can feel it, but you feel the wind profile much more. Don't underestimate that. Going into a headwind or getting hit with crosswinds with it can have a very unsettling effect. These trucks aren't really big enough to feel truly planted when being pushed on by a trailer that big (not heavy)

How's she doing, fine I'm sure especially since you're regeared.....I'm afraid to ask fuel economy since I get like 8-12 while towing

How is it towing with 37s? My trailer is close in weight and I would love to go up to 35s but I have to go over the divide, so was wondering.

It's not so bad as what other people think. It did better then what I expected. Flat ground and slight hills does good. Going up real steep hills don't be afaird to make the truck work the trans temp kept about 210 maybe 220 going up really steep hills. And I was passing bigger trucks that was towing also.

The stopping is good. I did upgrade my front brakes to the 4runner one's plus it has electric trailer brakes.

Stuff like this is why I don't Tacoma any more.
Although I do miss it when it's time to parallel park...

lol I made my last payment on mine today to pay it off so that it makes a private party sell easier... I'm done with mine, can't do the small truck thing anymore and will probably be doing the same as you.

If you go Ram, I'd say get the 6.4 & 4:11's
I haven't had any difficulties with the 5.7 & 3:73's, honestly, but when I was towing that load this weekend I would have liked a little more low-end grunt to get the trailer rolling. Once we were moving the 5.7 had no problems keeping it at speed (it held 70MPH up a long uphill grade on I-95 in 4th), but the step-off from a stoplight to about 10-15mph was a little more molasses-y than I liked. The fact that the truck's rated for just under 12K with this configuration and I was probably pushing 16k may have had something to do with it, though. Compost is just like a sponge when it rains, apparently.
But, from what I've read online, the 6.4/4:11's get the same or better mileage in day-to-day driving as the other engine/gearing combinations (except for the Cummins, obviously).

Absolutely. Dry weight on the trailer was 4200lbs. Put anything in it, though...

Load it and I'll pull it :) you forget my travel trailer is roughly 5k loaded. I'm sure you had well over 1k in there though

    lol...yeah...

Trailer was rated for 16k, so around 12k lbs of cargo. I figured "Great, I can fit about 8 yards in here!" based on the cargo dimensions.
At 6 yards the tires started squatting and I called it. The truck wasn't even close to the bump stops, but since I was planning on the highway to get home I didn't want to do it with bulging tires on the trailer.

Dad once did 6 yards mulch in his 02 tundra 8ft bed. Rode the bump stops. A dually 3500 Chevy watched while he waited his turn. Guy leaned out and shouted how many are you taking. My dad shouts back he'd take more if he's buying. That truck was such a beast
