I agree. Like others have said , who knows what happens down the road, if anything at all.

Jamesboy - how old are you? You seem really young, like this is your first car/truck you ever owned?

    Not bashing, just wondering

I would want the dealer to buy the truck at what fair market value would've been before the accident and a good deal on a new truck. I would expect to pay at least a little bit of money but would not be interested in having that truck back. Honestly, I don't think that I would've said much of anything right after they told me what happened. Best of luck OP.

Another idea is to have someone knowledgeable drive behind you as u drive the taco. I've seen some slavaged cars track sideways down the road.

After the brakes failed on my Mazda3 3 years ago, fortunately I was slowly entering my driveway at the time, I was relentless with the dealer.
My repeat question for them was "Would you be 100% confident in the safety of this vehicle such that you would allow your wife or daughter to be the daily driver?"

If the answer is no then we need to discuss alternative options including you selling me a different vehicle.
They pretty much immediately agreed to an equal trade or purchase of a different vehicle.

Ultimately they ended up replacing every part that could fail in the future and I kept the vehicle. And my daughter is currently using it to commute to college from home.

Personally, you have to weigh that out for yourself. But I would certainly mention that to them.

Ok op, if you decide on a new , clean, and previously undamaged truck , maybe you can talk them into taking all of your mods off your damage truck and tossing it all into the back and leaving with it,and whenever you have the time you can reinstall them onto your new truck. Just a thought good luck sir

I've been around cars and trucks for a long time, I grew up driving beaters with a heater myself. Just because those things are not important to you, doesn't mean you're not legally obligated to disclose accidents and/or incidents you are aware would affect the reliability/run-ability of a car and/or truck on sale. I've been screwed over on vehicle sales from dealerships, as one stuffed head gasket sealer into a Ranger I bought, and another lied about a check engine light, and what would "fix" it. I've learned a lot about Used Car dealer integrity, and due to the exact reasoning you've been defending, to stay away from used cars, unless you want a hidden accident or major issues. Good on you for not ever wanting to get rid of your truck, but if you ever do, and it's not as a "Parts Truck", please disclose the flooding, for the good of the person who might be relying on it as a reliable piece of transportation.

FYI tmobile has service in most of Europe. Last time we went we bought a sim card and a month of service and had a cell phone pretty much everywhere we went.

You missed the point completely, but yes, I would replace the gasket as well. And I did, for $800, including a new set of heads, which were cracked, plus an additional $100 for the plugged heater core, and $70 for a new water pump. This was an issue that cost me a lot of money, and had I known that someone had stuffed it full of head gasket fix, I wouldn't care if it ran now, I wouldn't have bought it.

You don't even need a new SIM. Unlimited 3g data unlimited texts and cheap phone calls. That's why I'll never leave tmobs. Having maps in foreign countries is too damn nice.

You'd be surprised how good a frame and/or body looks after a good frame shop gets a hold of it. Getting the measurements checked by a frame shop is the only way to tell if the frame has been tweaked, especially if they've had it in their possession a long time.

They would be buying me out for a new truck. Happened to my neighbor he got lawyer friend to send a letter of intent. Enough money to buy a new one.

The longer they have it, the more they can cover up. Which is what they want and need to do to give it back. The list of parts replaced and/or inspected should be pretty long I imagine.
I think they need to replace it with something of greater or equal value at no cost to you.
You should at least have a third party expert examine the frame and any other critical components if you're going to take it back.

Best of luck to you. I hope it all works out.

I'm not sure if the 2nd Gen & 3rd Gen frames are, but my 1st gen 2004 DCSB TRD OF was rear ended and due to the frame being bent, just in front of the rear tires, they had to do a new frame restoration. They said that Toyota frames (Gen1 at least) could not be repaired!

They also said that it wouldn't hurt the value when I sold it! HA! I lost at least $2,000 to $3,000 on trade in because of it...even though it was put on a brand new frame!

Sorry I’m not going to read all 24 pages of this thread, so bear with me.

Body-on-frame construction is very good at many things, but it’s not very good at absorbing the energy from violent shocks.

The laws of physics are such that when a frame is hit, instead of absorbing the energy, it travels along the length of the frame, many times damaging components attached to it like engine mounts, suspension mounts, transmission mounts, axle mounts, etc.

I don’t know what I’d do in your situation. My truck only has 500 miles. If I learned that the dealer dropped it I’d expect nothing less than a brand new truck. But yours has almost 100,000 miles, with all the good and bad that that brings. And that changes things.

At the very least, I’d have a third-party body shop do a thorough inspection of the frame and everything attached to it. You don’t want to find out in two months that you got a broken engine mount or a bent transmission mount. Don't ask how I know...
