What’s the specs on your trailer? How well does it pull? My passport is a 19’. Dry weight is 3875. But I figure I’m around 5000 or so loaded up.

It's a Camplite 16DB, 2750 dry, rated for 5000 fully loaded. Tows really well with some water in the freshwater tank to keep weight forward. No need for WDH or anything other than a brake controller. Not the roomiest TT, but perfect for what I use it for.

5700lbs, weighed at the truck scales. 570lbs tongue weight. Droops the rear a bit but actually feels OK on the ass of the Tacoma

Gives me hope that my future Airstream at 3800 dry is feasible for 3-4 times a year.

Totally feasible! As long as you got good brakes on the airstream

It’ll definitely carry more windage than your boat though

I towed a 2 place snowmobile trailer up to the UP this winter. Strong crosswind, and I have to say the performance was pretty disappointing. LOTS of transmission hunting and a couple of overshift on the kickdown. 9.2mpg for the trip. My old '13 with the 4.0 and the 6 speed manual towed much better. Wish I had gone for the manual in the '19. Thinking seriously about the OVtune.

Yeah you'll be more vulnerable to cross winds for sure but 3800 dry means the truck should still be equal to or close to the trailer weight. Aerodynamic drag will definitely be a factor compared to the boat. Means slower speed, less mpg and more gear hunting. But still totally towable

I'm at a bit of a crossroads with this.

I am going though the grief of dealing with the fact of very recently finding out I either have to pony up $15,000 for a new frame on my 05 with 194K on it or "manage" my expectations of a 3rd gen with the 3.5L. Since 2009 I have had a 1,000 pound when full pop up camper on my SC'd Tacoma for work. It's not just the TRD either, smaller pulley, cam gears, 7th injector, full headers and exhaust, etc. It is running better than ever and puts out 407HP and 415tq.

So today I first took a spin in a TRD Pro with the 6 speed manual, took the sales guy for a ride in my truck, then did the 6 speed auto and finally a 5.7L Tundra. On the upside, I LOVE the new tech and interior....but it ended rather abruptly there. My truck blew the doors off of all of them, super smooth and responsive torque from idle with no where near the pedal input I had to give the 3.5L, the sales guy was stunned and this was with heavy rock sliders, big load range E tires, etc. I guess I had gotten used to all that go fast and thought the delta would be much smaller but it is literally night and day. I mainly use the power down low to hill climb, pass and finesse rough off road, not to race at the top of the RPM range.

I am going to dig around a bit more about things like pedal commander and OVtune but my god, spending $15,000K on a truck I know like the back of my hand over the new Taco is *actually* looking to be the better investment for my niche needs, I am simply not going to be able to duplicate it.

Thus far, I am not at all impressed with the 3.5 and to add to this, my ride gets 22MPG when the camper is not on.

Any real world thoughts on how to make this new platform perform better?

OVTune is completely worth it. The tunes aren’t perfect but they are getting better. Anything beats the stock tune. I drive with the 91 performance tune and it’s not even the same truck.

That is what I keep reading but the difference made the head sales guy admit he was a bit embarrassed, it is *huge*. I am thinking at this point I would not get squat for my truck any way so I am going to go to my off road shop, have them go over my frame and box it and I will keep the 05 for dirty work and rough stuff, it is truly a remarkable truck.

I am a motocross guy wanting to get the most out of my taco with out hurting it for hauling around a toy hauler

What do you guys thing about this new toy hauler coming out, see specs below.

There’s a smaller option I know my taco would be fine with but if I will be able to tow this model comfortably, this is the one I’d like to spend my $$ on as it’ll be a long term set up.

The dry weight of this toy hauler appears to be 4488. My trailer is 3850 dry but when fully loaded with everything for just camping I sit between 5k-5500lbs. The truck will pull it but I wouldnt go more than that. You still have your toys and supplies to load up.

Any of you that commonly pull trailers in the mountains are in hot climate do you bump to 30 weight oil. I ask this because the manual mentions going with a higher viscosity oil in such conditions.
