Problem is 5th and 6th are already over geared even on a stock truck with the Auto. The truck has to downshift to 4th for almost any hill, or wind or acceleration. Add in altitude, weight, bigger, heavier tires and mountain grades and the truck constantly needs 4th gear even on the highway. Mat's work has made the double overdrive way more usable but my truck still rarely sees 6th and that is with 33-inch skinnies. I think 4.88 will let it use 5th and 6th more effectively.

From what I have experienced , The tunes have enabled the use of the 5th and 6th gears by locking them in at a 95 + load as per Fusion . Yes they use the higher gear but is it really good for the drivetrain ?

The way load is calculated with this ECU is, 100% load basically means manifold pressure = same as outside pressure.
you can get 95% load at less than half throttle.

To exaggerate , one could be at 100 % load at 1% throttle while in 4th gear at 5 mph . It just stalls .What is different ?

Not sure I understand your question, but my post was trying to convey that load alone does not necessarily mean the engine is "working hard."

For example at 2000 RPM and 30% throttle engine load may be 80%.
now increase throttle to 80%. Load is now 90%.
Are we only seeing a 10% different in torque from those two different throttle angles? nope

Awesome! Now I will have another person who wants the 4.88 tune to chime in.

I have been watching the loads on fusion and feeling that the tunes were holding gears at really high loads . I HAVE been concerned that it was bad and the engine was working hard . From what you are saying it is not , and it is a misreading , or use of the load values ?

I have 4.88 gears and am also patiently waiting on gear and tire specific tune. I am patient though!

What you are seeing is accurate, but what I mean is that load alone is not an indicator of how hard the engine is working. You can see 70% load readings in 6th with your foot barely on the pedal, but the engine isn't working hard at all.

Been kicking around selling this fall and starting over with a 2020 model. News of a new motor in 2023 might make me reconsider. Although with the tune and the updates to come, I am not so afraid to own a third gen anymore! Without the tune, not a chance.

Thankyou for the explaination as the load does not always make sense as to what the truck is doing at the time when also watching the throttle % .I have most likely been over thinking this, and I await the shutter / misfire fix for dongles . Will the dongle version PCMflash be available at the same time as the P5flash ?

I'm running 4.88's and would like the 4.88 Tune! Tune made things way better - thinking 4.88's would put the bow on the top!

Well that makes at least two of us! Poll showed more - they must have lost their voice!

So ??? did you get 4.88's or 5.29's ?? 4.88's on stock is way better than stock AT in everyway, and even with stock tire size!

kicks ass. came up heading east (long side of the pass) at 3500 rpm in 5th at 65 mph and never flinched. Plenty of power and no funky shifting. When towing it is perfect. S mode lock down to 4th and upshift when needed. Averaged 24 mph down and back from Golden to Durango.
