I have to take both of mine out almost weekly. I tilt the seat forward a little and toss the tether back there. Then I lift up the car seat from the bottom with one are to give enough room to tilt the seat back down more. Then i just reach back and click that bad boy on.

My wife and I spoke yesterday about placing towels, etc. under car seats and how it could possibly compromise safety. My wife works in the early childhood field.

Diono Radian is a great seat. I also use Cosco topside boosters which fit nicely.

After squeezing my family of four in the Tacoma over the last month, I chose not to do it anymore. It was too tight all around, and I dreaded further inconveniencing my family. Earlier this evening, I traded the Tacoma for a Highlander. I’m confident the Highlander will serve my family well for quite some time. It was a joy to ride home from the dealership with all the extra room!

This forum has been a great resource! I’ll miss the enthusiasm here and accompanying motivation that led me to tinker with the Tacoma. Until next time, take care y’all!

For those of you who have kids a little older, check out mifold car seats.

I got a pair for my kids, when they are not sitting in them, they fit in the rear door pockets.

This my set up. I replaced infant car seat to the graco 4ever car seat for the baby. So far so good.

I’m back! Traded the Highlander after two months for a Tacoma. It’s a SR and will suit my usage just fine. I felt out of place driving the Highlander and we found my wife’s Camry gets better fuel economy and hauls baby gear and my oldest son’s baseball gear. Whenever the entire family piles into the Tacoma, we’ll just have to squeeze in until my infant converts to a forward facing seat next year.

Wondering if removing the seat back is an option? Pushing car seats further back. I'm having same issue with 2 rear facing carseats, and I'm 6'2".

Curious, how well did the mesa fit in the tacoma? The wife bought one and I am worried about how well it'll fit in my Tacoma.

Here are a few pictures to give you an idea. We are getting ready (about a week!) for our next baby to arrive, so I decided to put it in and then saw your post. I usually sit with the seat all the way back, but with the Uppababy Mesa I need to move it forward a handful of notches. It isn't terribly uncomfortable, but it isn't the most ideal. My other kid is front facing in a cheap carseat (annoying to install, too). We have the Nuna Rava, but that is usually in the other car.

I am 5'10" and what you might call "husky" lol.

I'm reviving this so maybe one of you can convince me not to trade in to a Honda Ridgeline.

I just had my first kid, a beautiful daughter, but it means the old 2010 Access Cab doesn't work anymore. I looked at a 3rd gen double cab Tacoma and a Ridgeline.

In the Tacoma I didn't see car seat latches on both sides of the back seat. Are there specific years or models that have car seat latches on both sides?

The preferred method would be to have the baby seat in the middle.

They should have them on both sides. There are the rear anchors behind the seats, then on each side there should be 2 lap anchors.

Just an FYI, if you put baby in the middle, you have to use the seatbelt, there are no LATCH anchors on the middle seat and borrowing a LATCH anchor from both outboard seats is an incorrect way to install the seat.

I cannot speak to later years (though I'd venture they're all the same) but my 2016 has LATCH on the outboard seats. I used a Chicco Keyfit 30 as an infant seat and currently have a pair of Gracco 4Ever Extend2Fits in my truck now, a rear facing on the passenger side and a front facing on the driver's side.
