What's wrong with a trailer? When I go riding I need the bed space anyways for gear and camping setup.

Lol yup! and everyone says I need to compromise, which obviously there will always be some. But the idea's I have floating in my head will let me accomplish 95% of all my goals. Only thing is it will always mean is that I will never have a RTT. Which at this point, I am fine with.

The problem with a trailer is that it will limit the kinds of trails I can take the truck on with the bike. And if you are out exploring needing to do a u turn with a trailer is even more of a PITA. Plus storage of a trailer is another thing I don't have the space for. We have some tighter trails out here I can wheel to, then set up camp, and ride all weekend. That's the direction I want to go in. And removing some things from the bed to a swing out will open up some bed space that the bike will now be occupying.

Ah didnt realize you were thinking about having the swingout offset back further than normal. Look at the measurements i posted.

Could always roof rack a rtt.
Trailers suck. Lol. I got so tired of dealing with mine.

I wish I could fit the sled in my bed with the Nest. It'd be fun to go snow wheeling until the truck can't make it, drop the sled and ride, then come back to camp in the truck. One reason for the turbo was so I could pull a small trailer again though.

I'm guessing you don't want a hitch carrier because of departure angles?

Hitch carriers definitely ruin departure. Id say more than having the tailgate down does.

@cynicalrider if you dont want my pictures here let me know and ill remove them. Ive tried just about every setup that i can with a 5ft bed as my limitation.

Not so much making the swing out stick out further, rather leave holes in the swing out for the tire. This is where 85 puts me, further back than I thought for sure. My concern now is that the rear won’t have enough space to sit on the bed. Gonna be one of those, won’t know till I get one kinda deals.

    4DEAB4AE-6DA8-42CB-B86B-89A5B2EAE1AA.jpg

I do a lot of janky doodles when I should be working of different concepts. The ones on the bottom right were some swing out shape ideas. Basically V’s to leave space for a dirt bike tire. And that was when I was doing a tire gate concept. I also had a concept where I would have a dual swing out that could latch into an open tailgate but I felt it would limit me severely. Lots of ideas in my head, mostly dumb but one might work one day.

Yup exactly. And I’ve seen how much movement those things have off-road, not to mention now you are throwing a ton of moving weight far behind the axle.

Don't recommend that on a first gen. Roofs are terrible, I was standing on my roof rack and one of the mounts on the rear dented in. Now once I got off it went right back. But imagine that with off-roading and all of that jazz. Plus with all that weight up there

No dud you are more than welcome. I have been concepting this shit in my head for a long time now. A large portion of my truck's bed reorganization is driving towards this goal. First orders of business will be remove the tool box and replace with ammo cans. Dual jerry's in the bed and co2 will go to single jerry in the bed and co2, while dual jerry gas cans will go under the bed. Lot's to do to get towards my goal, but the nice part is I can do it in iterations.

Yeah I already get myself in enough precarious situations with all my weight down low, fuck that.

Be interesting to see how that works. I just seperate the two hobbies/setups.

    Or build a 4x4 van.

That's the common sense route. I lack that currently. The nice part is everything I do to attempt to make this happen, will benefit my overall camping setup in general. The thoughts on moving the high lift to the swing out, tool boxes easily accessible from both sides, and moving the water to a better location where I should never need to remove it from it's carrier, are all benefits I'll enjoy on normal wheeling/camping trips too.

I'm sure it's already been addressed but a roof rack is a good spot to put other things like water, small toolbox (Plano case) etc. Just not a RTT

Just buzzed through this quick so I may have missed something.

Have you looked at how the earthroamers are set up? Hitch mount but on a lift system to maintain departure angle.

Not saying it’d be easy, just might be something to consider given the constraints you want... might even be able to work the hilift into a dual purpose position :drevil:

Idk if raising the front tire up would help enough or not. Itd effectively shorten the wheelbase some but might have to worry about back windows

Yup seen that too. That thing moves a ton, and it would be putting a ton of weight high too. First I gotta get through fixing all this shit.

Heres an idea. Make a part of the swingout drop out and down to give the rear tire something to sit on and give it the extension for length. Then whsn its not being used it could be in the up position and look like a normal swingout

That's also a pretty damn good idea. Once I get the bike I can get a better idea with what dimensions I got to work with in a real world situation.

Some serious progress. First, this bitch is off its stands for the first time in 3 years, with 2 test rides under its belt.

Fucking stoked. Not much left to do, plastics came in last night, need to rebuild the master cylinder for the stunt hand brake, paint the tank then it goes up for sale.

While I was waiting on parts for the bike I started catching up on the truck.

    Sliders painted:

Also took a hike with the wife and pup on the Appalachian Trail on Saturday. Mac was a beast on the technical sections. Probably the hardest hike she has done to date.
