Yeah it's not ideal to run your spark plugs that long but I think a lot of people forget how robust these trucks are. I doubt ISIS or the Somalis are religiously following the service manual on their trucks and they seem to run fine under pretty harsh conditions until they get droned.

Im about to change the plugs on my 2.4L . I’ve had it about 3 months and it’s got 150,000 miles on it. Pretty sure it’s still got the original plugs. I’m expecting the worst but hoping for the best. Any advice to help get them out without issue?

I changed my factory plugs out at 167k and they surprisingly weren't hard to get out. Seemed to come out pretty normal. This was on the 4.0 though. I guess just make sure you have a plug socket and go slow. I did put some anti seize on the new ones I put back in though.

Just changed the plugs on my new to me 2005 Tacoma. 184,585 miles. The previous owner had them replaced about every 50k miles according to receipts he gave me. The work was done by a jiffy lube.

I pulled a plug before I bought the truck and it looked good, BUT 3 out of 6 spark plugs were only hand tight in the head and one was loose to the point that the coil was orange /brown from carbon.

I installed new Denso plugs and torqued them to 168inlb and was shaking my head the whole time. It took me a total of 27 minutes to change the plugs in the dark ,and it cost me $60.

Another good reason I don't trust repair shops, or the old "well maintained" line so commonly seen in ads.

I start them by hand with a plug socket or a hose, then finish them off with a torque wrench to 168 inch pounds (4.0 torque spec). I've always put iridium plugs in dry so I get the correct torque value. Never have I had trouble removing them. If you use anti-seize with a torque wrench additional math is required or you'll strip the threads due to the higher torque value caused by lubricating the threads. Easy peasy

I agree @ mileage. I've looked at many a "lower mileage" cars in the city some with only 60k, and yet they felt and looked like they had 300k on them - potholes, road rash, etc.

I'll take a higher mileage highway driven vehicle, over a low mileage city driven vehicle any day!!!!

That should work out good for you as the higher mileage vehicles sell for less than the low mileage ones.

Yeah, The vast majority of low mileage vehicles are that way because they're either short trips, and/or stop and go traffic. At least in what I've seen. But someone could definately get lucky.

Me too, 66 times in 60 days. Not bad for a guy in his 50s.

    Milage is back to normal.
Getting new stock sized tires and alignment.

I lucked out. I got a 2.7, A/T with 96,000 that was an escort vehicle, it had most of its miles on the highway at lower speeds. The guy bought a newer Tacoma with a six and comfort. He kept his 2.7 and sold it himself.

Pure luck, I knew the guy and I had been hunting for about six months. When he got the new one, called and asked if I was interested. I was.
