To a certain degree you are correct!
But just like standing on the tips of your toes, give you more height. That's basically what a 3" lift is doing. Try and go hiking wearing a pair of high heels. That's what a 3" lift is like.
The increased angle wit the 3" lift makes the truck more prone to tire lift off, and traction loss. (Basic articulation geometry)

Either way? I'm only here to offer the OP information. Not the convince everyone that the world is NOT flat.

Super_Blanca_Tacoma Hope you come to the right decision for you!

    Good Luck!

    FTFY.

A 6" lift is the epitome of form over function. I am also not sure how relevant your points are. A 6" lift give you a higher sense of gravity and a false sense that your truck can actually do much off pavement.

I can flex my 3" lift pretty far without lifting a tire off the ground:

What part of Oregon? Sounds like my exact story. Hit up Ladee Flats in estacada and now I want to build and play!!!!!

Thinking about going this route, what specifically would you get for the rear?

    2nd gen.

Suspension components should be identical as Toyota hasn't changed anything in 14 years.

I have a 6" with 35's, This is my daily driver..... but weekend warrior as well.
Amazing set up but yes is more expensive than the 3" lift set up, to me is totally worth it.
I get stare's and compliments on my Truck Constantly while driving round town.
Keep in mind everything you spend on your truck for these extreme off road upgrades you will not get back if you sell or trade it in the future.

Here is my FABTECH Lift Kit.

I think this is something we can all agree on.

If trading into a dealership, they will turn around and mark up the price several grade because the truck already is lifted etc. Scum of the earth.

@Super_Blanca_Tacoma Where you from? You can save a TON of money having a mod day with some locals. Might cost you some pizzas and beers. But you will get to meet some new friends and learn a TON while doing it.

As long as they know what they are doing. If they don't it could cost more in the long run.

Definitely you get ripped off on the way in and on the way out of a dealership!
    In all honesty for me.......
I am cool with my 6" because i don't plan on doing any of those nearly vertical washouts, drops or trails with crazy boulders n'stuff in the middle of them.
So for me it's looks over insane terrain for me, keeping my off road experience to a Moderate level with my current build.
If i was gonna do extremely insane terrain climbs i would get a cheap older Tacoma that i don't mind denting and wrecking all to heck.
Which in future i might just do if i get into doing those types of trails.

@geekhouse23 I'm in Portland Oregon. I don't know anyone who would be willing to help out a stranger lol and that is good at installing lifts. I don't want to have a bunch of issues down the road either because it wasn't properly installed. You know what I mean?

I’ve been trying to find guys through some of the local Facebook groups to get to know a little. It’s hard to find people in Portland knowledgeable enough to trust.
As far as shops In the area: Trend Setters has been recommend by quite a few locals with nice setups. If I don’t do my lift myself in the future, I would definitely check them out.

Steel Plate bumpers, full set of skids including lower control arms, gas tank and rear diff, and a set of side bars. My truck is outfitted with all of this. Good luck with your truck and safe wheeling.
