The 1997 single cab SX v6 5speed with a supercharger is pretty rare and mine with almost 600,000 miles very rare with original supercharger still intact installed in 1998.

1997 was the last year the v6 was available in the single cab and the first year the TRD supercharger was compatible with the ECU.
So 1997 was the only year a supercharger was available with the single cab v6.
The supercharger was not compatible with the 1995-1996 v6 ECU.

But my SX package did not come with the E locker or electric windows or locks or electric antenna,
Single cab did NOT come with a factory sunroof. The sr5 did have these available in 1997 for the extra cab,

 

so the supercharger compatible with my engine you think?
not that I am exploring it or anything, just out of curiousity

Ohhhhh boy!, that’s a long story and depending on what you do or what you need or how much power you want to get. It’s a rabbit hole. It’s not cheap to have it done correctly.

With a few extras like mine you will have SO much fun dependable power if wanted.
You can get a Tacoma with a supercharger to run just as fast as a Subaru WRX or Ford raptor, actually faster.

 

i am guesstimating $3k to 5k? to modify mine, not what yours cost lol
i have other costs needing to be done to mine keep er going looking sharp
i just couldn't keep up with that Dakota v8 on the on-ramp last week, not that i was trying to or anything

 

so now we must determine for (straight from the factory) rarity how many single cab v6's were available vs. '98 model years with NO passenger airbag vs. stepside vs. sunroofs vs. .....................

 

Supercharger will add 100 plus horsepower with a few extra ,and a Dakota v8 will be behind you

The difference is totally amazing and until you drive a supercharger Tacoma one doesn't realize the power difference, if you make it to Denver a free ride awaits you,

 

i am waiting for the Trail Ridge Road to open, have been near there twice with my truck and it has always been closed due to weather
once in early June and once in late September
have you ever had your truck at that altitude?

 

All the time up at 12,000 feet over the pass,
Supercharger works fantastic up at those altitudes too.

 

wow! i woulda thought with decreased air available (as opposed to lower altitudes) there might be issues, but i dunno

 

Im actually up to those altitudes a few times a month at least when I get out of the Denver traffic to get away

 

You don't have the same power as sea level of course not and any motor has less power the higher you go in altitude.
But the supercharger helps to offset that

 

might be quicker than one of the TRD 3rd gens since our trucks probably weigh a bit less and lower profile?

 

Its ALOT quicker than the new Tacoma and alot quicker than the tundra too
