Securing a motocross, show me how its done.

Recently purchased a 08 trd off road and as the riding season is coming fast i wanted to know how you guys are securing your bikes in the bed?

I have a nice set of straps that I used in my old ranger but the tie down points were nice and solid, Im not sure if I really trust the cleats that run along the rails in the box.

Iv seen pics where there are tie down points mounted vertically at the front of the box however my truck has nothing upfront. Seeing as I will most likely have to add points in the front I wanted to see what my options were and what has worked for everyone here.

OHH man now thats slick, seems like a winner. I wonder if that would help add some rigidity to the box as well?

 

It will for sure, he also makes the rear brackets that really stiffen it up and have extra die down points as well as an opener for the cold ones after a long day on the dirt scooter

 

I really like how the front rail becomes a wheel chock, thats a really smart design. My free time to go riding has gone way down in the last few years but seeing as I can tell myself it will also stiffen up the box I can justify spending the loot lol

I have been tying down to the factory cleats mounted behind the cab, as that rail is a lot more rigid than the sides. One bike is no problem (still not the ideal way to tie down), but two is pretty sketchy. That tie down rail should solve that though. Good price too. That looks like I should be able to install it without having to remove my tonneau also.

 

I just noticed the stickers on the back of the Taco in the pics. Is that one of our members making these?

As was mentioned earlier, it looks like a smart, simple design, that's easy to install, and the price is well below what I've seen for similar products. I'm looking forward to getting it.

 

I carry atvs, two dirt bikes and snowmobiles in the back (depending on the situation) and I’ve only used the cleats. The amount of force on the rails is very tiny and it works perfectly. For dirt bikes it’s a strap on the left of one bike the right of the other, a strap between the two inside parts and one for the rear tires

I bought and installed two D-rings up front. Same as the back of the bed. Bolts are into the frame so they aren't doing anywhere. Works like a champ. I didn't trust the rail and cleat method. I'll post a pic later today. I believe the bolts need a T35 driver...

 

I think I’m going to go with adding d rings to the box bolts up front. I’m lucky if I get out for 8-10 rides a year and with the conversion rate and shipping I can’t bring myself to order the ath piece for how little I ride these days

 

If you don’t have a fork support I suggest you get one. Blown fork seals suck

 

I do have 1 now, I also have all the tools to replace my fork seals and have done it a few times. I use to pull a bouncy trailer behind a Vw golf so I would compress the crap out of the forks

 

Big bolts up front are T55. Smaller ones in the rear are T40.

 

Now to try to get the T55’s out... I soaked them in penetrating fluid today, didn’t trust my mastercraft bit so I’ll wait till I get to work and try a snap on bit and my 2ft breaker bar.

2008 truck in Canada, this probably won’t go how I’d like it to, if they come free like every other bolt I’ve taken out of the truck so far will get a pass on the wire wheel and a liberal coating of anti-seize.

 

An impact gun will also do the trick....
