Hey all, new to the forum and new to Tacoma ownership. Having issues with RPM surges— enough so that it drives the truck forward even when brake is applied.

I searched around and I believe it’s the same issue others are having with the 2017. I was able to capture a video of the situation this morning. Anybody know the cause or if Toyota has a fix/solution?

P.S. This only happens occasionally; it’s noticeably shaking the truck and caused me to lurch through the stop sign.

My 2016 does it at idle, hate to say just gotten use to it, and know to keep the foot on the brake when in D or R when parking.

Do you have the latest ECU TSB from Toyota?

I’d bring it in right away, that’s fluctuating 400-500 rpm’s, crazy.

I don’t believe so. It was purchased August of 2018. My buddy has a 16 and he mentioned an ECU flash was necessary— I figured since this is two years newer it would have already had that taken care of.

Show the dealer that video and mention the new TSB, I'm pretty sure the TSB mentions surge in it.

I agree. It’s fairly irritating especially with it being brand new.

Specifically tsb-0062-18 is the one you want to ask about

Awesome, really appreciate this. I’ll run over to the local stealership here today and keep everyone posted.

Wonder if this will solve my slight jerkiness as well, but it’s definitely not as bad as what was posted above.

Just did some research on TSB-0062-18

From the general description I have come to the conclusion that my truck never had this ECU fix. From the dealer it had an odd powerband and supposedly that is fixed with that TSB. I assumed it was normal never having owned a Tacoma.

Just got back from the dealer. Before I showed the video the Tech immediately mentioned a TSB relating to the transmission. I showed the video and he said they, “definitely want to get that looked at ASAP.” Also agreed it did not appear to be the transmission.

I scheduled it for the 1st of May. I’ll let everyone know the outcome after that. I asked him to put a note about TSB 0062-18 into the file.

On another note, there is a recall for the pre-collision sensor in the front badge— I was not aware of said recall until the tech informed me. They are doing recall work the same day.
